| Nationals Sign Five »

Some links for your Thursday night viewing pleasure...
- Diamond Leung has some Dodgers notes, including a particularly interesting one regarding Scott Boras. Earlier, Peter Gammons reported that the Dodgers scouting department wouldn't be touching any Boras clients in the June draft. Leung refutes that, citing Dodgers Assistant General Manager of Scouting Logan White's statement that the Dodgers will consider Boras clients because "talent comes first."
- The Nationals have been watching Chad Cordero's auditions, according to Dave Sheinin. Cordero threw 40 pitches "at 70-75 percent effort" the other day. Cordero's agent, Larry Reynolds, says that he's on pace to be ready for Opening Day.
- Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News has a good article highlighting Okalahome State University lefty Andy Oliver and his victory in a lawsuit against the NCAA. Oliver challenged the rule that athletes cannot have attorneys participate in direct negotiations with Major League teams prior to being drafted. Oliver was suspended prior to an NCAA Regional in 2008.
- Ringolsby also notes, in the same article, that the Braves have interest in Garret Anderson.
- Tim Hudson got into a heated exchange with a reporter in the clubhouse, regarding the recent Ken Griffey Jr. drama, and had to be separated by a team official, according to the AP.
- Speaking of Griffey, the Mariners will hold a press conference for him this Saturday, Geoff Baker reports.
- Anthony Castrovince reports that Edward Salcedo, a top Dominican prospect who had been tied to the Indians last year, had an investigation launched surrounding his age. There were doubts that he was really 16, which obviously quieted talks.
I dont know if I would want to get into it with Huddie. He may look skinny, but he's got some hidden muscle.

Also, I doubt that Griffey was a shoe-in to get the Braves "back to thier glory days". He might have provided some pop, but not THAT much!

Hopefully with LAD scouting now considering Boras clients, it means Manny will soon be a Dodger

Hudson should have kicked O'Brien's you know what
Posted by: metzfan22 | February 19, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Was it O'Brien for sure? It sounds like it.
"Pitcher Tim Hudson got into a heated argument in the clubhouse with a newspaper reporter, claiming his story angered Griffey and led him to back out of dealings with the Braves."
He says HIS story, that means its either DOB or Terence Moore. Probably DOB though. That's awesome, I want to know more about this.

someone asked what would White think about the loss of the 17 pick, this is who http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft-2009 feels the 17 pick would be, Ryan Wheeler. he hit 345(70/203) with 20 doubles, a triple, and 6 HR. he goes to Loyola Marymount, local. he doesnt sound that impressive. heres all his stats:

in november, http://morisato.realsportsbloggers.com/2008/11/13/2009-mlb-draft-projections-version-10/, felt that he would be taken with the 19 pick and could turn into Casey Kotchman. if this still holds true, id take hudson.

Just end our misery and fire Ned C and replace him with Logan white

Chipper has a good point though: why did KGJ initiate talks with Atlanta if he was concerned about his "legacy" in Seattle? It all played out in the media, DOB just jumped the gun a bit. Yeah, it's a wreeks of unprofessionalism, but does everyone really think DOB just made up everything about Griffey telling friends he wants to play for the Braves?
Posted by: drphonic7 | February 19, 2009 at 11:18 PM
You have to love people (Hudson included) who don't seem to understand that newspaper writers have no control over the headlines that precede their stories. All DOB reported was that Junior told a close friend that he had decided to join the Braves. It was the AJC that decided to run the piece under the headline "Griffey to Play for Braves."

˙uʍop ǝpısdn ǝdʎʇ oʇ pǝuɹɐǝן ʇsnɾ, It aint all that fun. Its crap that a team has to try and avoid drafting good young talent, because some jerk wants to be greedy and get a few extra million and years for his aging client. And how much of a greedy, a$$hole do you have to be to ask that much for a player, in this market, after making out like a seedy creep of a bandit just a few months prior(Lowe, Tex, Varitek). Its only a matter of time before all the clubs decide to ignore him. But he will just bitch and whine about it until Bud Selig does something about it.

Tomahawk I hear you man. Hudson is an intense guy, even though he isn't very big. I always liked him. I don't know if you remember, but last year he was up to bunt and Johan threw a fastball up and in knocking Hudson down. Hudson looked pissed and Johan looked a bit scared. That just stand out to me for some reason. I'm glad he is out for half the year because I hate when the Mets have to face him.

As for Boras, I have no problem with what he does. He is rather good at his job, and you have to love how he is totally committed to guys he works for, and doesn't care about public perception or how he comes off. That is a good agent. He plays the bad cop when he has to, and he only cares about his clients. I respect the guy.

"Hudson looked pissed and Johan looked a bit scared."
You're kidding right?
Posted by: stellar | February 20, 2009 at 05:44 AM
Why would I kid about that? It's not like Johan ran away crying, but he threw a high hard one and Hudson made sort of an involuntary twitch and Santana sort of flinched. I doubt you will be able to find video of such an insubstantial event, but I have all Johans starts recorded and I just went back to watch it. For just a split second it looked like Hudson was going to make a move toward the mound, and Santana flinched.

It was the bottom of the 7th inning of the May 22nd game. In case you think that for some reason I would ever make something like that up.

Even the thought of Griffey letting a news reporter influence his decision to not play in Atlanta, is pretty ridiculous. If this is true, thank god the Red Sox & Yankees weren't in a bidding war over him. All the Boston & New York reports probably would have made him cry.

didn't DOB say a few days ago if he was wrong about griffey signing with the Braves that someone should shoot him. Why hasn't it happened yet?
