Why wouldn't the team the Giants are trading Taschner to just sign Will Ohman themselves. It makes no sense. Here, give us some prospects so you can have this guy then we'll sign a nearly identical guy without giving up prospects. Wishful thinking on the Giants' part.

The Cuban Missile is the SS and is not going anywhere soon, why not have Beckham play 2nd in Double A. That way he will have a spot when he's ready for the Majors.

I really want to see the Can succeed. He isn't much older than Jamie Moyer and was always more of a control pitcher anyway.

Actually, why not have the guy play 3B? They have questions at the position and he has more than enough stick to play there.

I still have confidence in Fields at 3rd, but sure have Beckham play 3rd if things don't work out with Fields. Viciedo can play 1st once Pauly retires.
1st Viciedo
2nd Beckhma/Getz
SS Cuban Missile
3rd Fields/Beckham

Oh my.. Anybody that can lose both ends of a DH game, 1 as a starter and another as a reliever cannot be all bad perhaps.. Maybe he can catch on with San Diego, Towers is always on the lookout for reclamation type projects that are finished, like Mark Prior. Maybe he will give him a call? They can even pound some Budweiser together...

If the CUBS don't get it together soon, the Whitesox may become Chicago's Team. They have some young talent that make their future look bright.

PWH,
Ohman will sign for twice what Tasch makes. Whatever prospects will be low level at best.

Viciedo is likely to the LF of the future for the Sox, with Quentin moving to RF. Brandon Allen will be the 1b. Ideally, in 2010 or 11, the lineup would be:
2B- Getz
SS- Ramirez
RF- Quentin
1B- Allen
LF- Viciedo
3B- Beckham
C- Flowers
CF- Danks
Something like that.

800,000$ for a prospect?

I am so excited to watch the development of Beckham. But the truth is Getz and Fields (the 2 possible spots for Beckham) have both beat him out for a position. Beckham had 1 unbelievable week. Getz and Fields have had 5 great weeks.

I actually think Viciedo will play 1st for a while, and then eventually settle in at DH. I think the future of our outfield is John Shelby III, and Jordon Danks. John Shelby looks like a budding 5 tooler, with speed and power. 33 steals and 15 homers last year at winston salem last year makes him seem like a viable left field lead off option in the future. He'll likely be at birmingham with Beckham this season. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and seems to know what he needs to improve. I think in 2011 or so, the lineup could look like this:
LF - Shelby
2B - Getz
RF - Quentin
DH - Viciedo
3B - Beckham
SS - Ramirez
1B - Fields
C - AJ/Flowers
CF - Danks
Later,
Aaron

Beckham wasn't really beat out for the spot. The other guys had to be absolutely horrible for him to be considered. I don't think they want to rush him at all. If Getz/Lillibridge/Nix/Fields all hit at .150 or below all spring and were horrible in the field, then Beckham would have made the team. Since Fields and Getz are playing well, he gets sent down for more conditioning. He did only play in the system for about a month.

Getz and Fields both have had fantastic springs - there should be more hype on these 2.
Posted by: southsider | March 25, 2009 at 01:40 PM
Fields came up 2 years ago and had a great 2nd half of the season. Last season he was hurt most of the year so he didn't hit very well. There has been some hype for Getz the past year. It wasn't like they came out of nowhere, for the past 2 years they have been saying Fields would replace Crede, and last year Getz was the 2nd baseman and leadoff guy of the future. They didn't exactly pop out of nowhere.

"LF - Shelby

DH - Viciedo
3B - Beckham
SS - Ramirez
1B - Fields
C - AJ/Flowers

Very good Aaron. I think B. Allen will be the 1B though.
The good news is that these guys won't be very expensive for a few years which means the Sox will be able to spend money for one front end starter and one back end (if needed).
I don't put a whole lot into spring training games but Betemit has been hitting really well.

Uhh, that looks really ideal IMO. That's IF all these guys pan out and don't get hurt. Which reeeally isn't a promise, and this goes for any team with a lot of young prospects. AND, if none of these guys are traded for pitching, which is very much a possibility.
