« Odds And Ends: Belliard, Atkins, Ayala | Main | Tigers Rumors: Polanco, Rodney, Lyon, Everett »
Casey Fossum has opted out of his contract to become a free agent, according to The Scranton Times-Tribune. He was pitching for Triple A Scranton in the Yankees organization after the Mets designated him for assignment in April.
Fossum, 31, has good numbers in ten starts for Scranton. He's averaging just five innings per start, but has allowed less than a hit per inning with 43 strikeouts and 16 walks. Fossum also pitched briefly for the Mets and their Triple A affiliate.

Here's hoping he ends up back with the Tigers so the Twins can maul him some more.

Fossum was pretty good in 2002-2003, but he's been pretty bad for a few years.
He gets groundballs but he doesn't strikeout that many guys (mid 6's per 9), walks a decent amount of guys, and has always been pretty homer prone (1.31 HR/9).
He's a lefty, but his fastball never got past 92, and it's sitting at 86-91 now after being at 85-89 two years ago.
He's been solid in AAA this year, but I can't imagine that he's much more than minor league depth at this point.

Seems like everybody is purging their AAA team of useless AAAA retreads, about time Boston started dumping some of the ones they have, like Billy Trabor and Paul McAnulty plus a few others that will never help the parent team any and are doing -0- good for AAA Pawtucket.
