« Phillies Acquire Lee, Francisco | Main | Cardinals After Relievers? »
6:19pm: Kovacevic says that no money is being exchanged in the Sanchez deal, which makes it all the more impressive for the Pirates. Keith Law (Insider) recently ranked the 20-year-old Alderson the 26th-best prospect in all of baseball.
5:51pm: Kovacevic is reporting that the minor leaguer is AA pitcher Tim Alderson. This is an impressive haul for Sanchez--Alderson was ranked the #4 prospect in the Giants' system by Baseball America. What we thought was a salary dump deal has turned into a pretty solid coup for the Pirates.
5:46pm: Henry Schulman at the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that it's a done deal, Sanchez straight up for a minor-leaguer. Stay tuned for the name.
5:42pm: Instead of making a scheduled flight to Phoenix, Sanchez has apparently been asked to stay at AT&T Park in San Francisco, reports Kovacevic. Looks like we'll find out the details of a deal very soon.
4:52pm: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports hear that the Pirates are talking to the Giants, Twins and at least one other team about Sanchez, but don't have a deal in place.
4:43pm: Kovacevic reports that the Giants' doctors found no major problems with Sanchez's knee and consider him day-to-day.
3:31pm: Kovacevic hears that the Pirates turned down Sanchez's offer. He proposed a deal that would have paid him $6MM next year, $6.5MM in 2011 and $7.5MM in 2012.
3:17pm: Langosch hears that Sanchez's offer is for $20MM over three years.
Meanwhile, Kovacevic hears that the Pirates have absolutely "no deal" in place, though the Giants and Pirates have the framework for one.
2:52pm: Kovacevic hears that the Giants are examining Sanchez within the hour. Is there a deal in place? Kovacevic hears 'yes' and 'no.'
2:46pm: Kovacevic reports that Sanchez made the Pirates a three-year offer.
2:40pm: MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports that the Giants and Pirates have a deal in place that would send Sanchez to San Francisco. The Giants will look at the infielder's knee this afternoon before deciding whether to complete the deal, which wouldn't send any major leaguers to Pittsburgh.
However, Kovacevic says no deal is in place.
2:20pm: SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Giants are in serious talks for Sanchez. The teams are discussing John Bowker, Kevin Frandsen and Jesus Guzman.
2:04pm: Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that the Giants are "definitely getting Freddy Sanchez." The Pirates already traded Jack Wilson today, so they could conceviably lose their entire double play combo in one day.
10:27am: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hears that the Pirates worked on possible trades involving Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson until late last night. The Giants seem to have the greatest chance of acquiring Sanchez since GMs Brian Sabean and Neal Huntington had extensive discussions earlier in the week and may even have set up the framework of a deal.
The Twins are interested in John Grabow and Sanchez, whose knee injury may have slowed down the trade process. Meanwhile, the Red Sox still have interest in Wilson.
And you're not the only one checking out the Pirates rumors. Chuck Finder of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Sanchez and Wilson are MLBTR readers. We're glad to have them aboard!

Sanchez come to Chicago!! we need someone who isnt lost at 2b and can actually hit.
Posted by: han-ram3 | July 29, 2009 at 10:31 AM
I would love for Wilson to be traded to the Red Sox. After last night's fiasco with Green its a must to have a reliable shortstop.Wilson would be a huge upgrade.
Posted by: terry180 | July 29, 2009 at 10:35 AM
I wonder what we could get from SF. I don't want Bowker, Frandsen, or Guzman. They are not what we need right now. The report from Schulman yesterday said that Guzman was the MLB ready prospect in the pakage but not the top prospect. That is pretty encouraging as a Pirate fan.

It's like were breaking the 4th wall here
Posted by: Thee4stringking | July 29, 2009 at 10:37 AM
Freddie, assuming you can stay healthy, we need you in Minnesota. Let's do this.
Posted by: adg1034 | July 29, 2009 at 10:37 AM
I bet the Red Sox sort out the Halladay thing before they do anything else. I would like to see Wilson to Boston for Lowrie but my guess is he goes in any deal for Halladay. That also might be too much for Jack unless we picked up the tab on his salary.
Posted by: BucSox | July 29, 2009 at 10:38 AM
the pirates will get 3 players for Sanchez one at least being Nick Noonan.... im going to say Noonan, Guzman, and Tanner for Sanchez will be the deal. oh by the way hi freddy and jack if your reading the comments i enjoyed your time in pittsburgh and all but its time to move on i hope you guys go to good teams and compete for division titles and world series.. best of luck to both you!

Ok Bucco Fans sanchez is already gone the reason they have not annouced is because there waitting till the series is over today.just like i knew larochew was going to redsox this is a done deal we will get guzman the second person is either gonzolus or sanchez the pitcher.but my inside resource from the pirates said the trade a done deal just waitting till series ends.also jack wilson will be a boston redsox by thursday night.not sure who we get in return but you can mark my words.as i came on told people about morgan and laroche trade before anyone even knew about ir.its great having relatives in the organzation.look for the announcement after the game or this evening

Sorry BucSox The Giants top prospects wont be included in a deal guaranteed. You guys will get good return probably one of our 2nd base prospects like Burris. But I doubt Noonan will be sent to Pittsburgh.

Dear Freddy Sanchez,
We need you. 'Nuff said.
Signed,
SF Giants Fans

accoridng to TIOPS the pirates have 5 prospects to pick from they will get up to 3... Noonan has been talked about extensively and the bucs like Guzman and Gillaspie...the pitchers are Sosa, Tanner, English, Joaquin, Casilla.... the "untouchables" are Alderson, Bumgardner, Villalona, and Posey we all knew that already though.
Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 10:45 AM
BucSox
the report said yesterday that if the Pirates eat more of the contract they would get better prospects from the Giants so its all up to the Pirates to decide what kind of prospects they get
Posted by: Bleacher_bum_SF | July 29, 2009 at 10:46 AM
Pirates 2011 yea they said they just wont announce the deal till after the game today... and yea jack is as good as gone.. i dont know about the players you said for Sanchez... i doubt they give up jonathan for Freddy... the pirates want Noonan pretty bad.. so will see im still saying Guzman, Noonan and Tanner for Freddy with the bucs eating some of the salary
Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 10:49 AM
They are already paying his contract so they might as well eat a bunch of it to get better prospects. and pirates in 2011- congrats, you have family in the worst franchise of the past 10 years. not something to be proud of so dont let your ego show bud.
Posted by: han-ram3 | July 29, 2009 at 10:50 AM

come to sf!! we need him the most!

"but my inside resource from the pirates said the trade a done deal just waitting till series ends.also jack wilson will be a boston redsox by thursday night."
My resources have told me that LaRoche and Snell are going to be traded to the Cardinals for Pujols and Carpenter.
Posted by: BravesRed | July 29, 2009 at 10:56 AM
The Twins definitely need him the most! We haven't had a 2nd baseman hit over .230 all season with poor D. Also, even with Mauer and Harris getting a lot of AB's in the 2 hole, our 2 spot is the worst in the AL.
Please get this done, we need Sanchez!
Posted by: twinsfan | July 29, 2009 at 10:56 AM
The Pirates pick up a lot of his 2010 option they'll get better prospects for sure but the Giants don't need them to. Giants are gonna have a lot of flexibility next year with Winn, Molina, Roberts, Johnson, Lowry and Howry off the books. Odds are they aren't resigned. But if they pick up contract they'll get either Noonan or Sosa. Not both.
Posted by: The_Thrill_22 | July 29, 2009 at 10:59 AM

ok, the giants will not give up jonathan sanchez now. so your "source" is wrong. if randy johnson wasn't hurt then maybe that would have been a possibility, but not anymore
Posted by: dodger$uck!!!! | July 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM
The twins need him the most? No way. The Cubs do. our second baseman almost lost the game for them because he cant bunt a fastball on the outer half. The Cubs need offense out of 2b and Sanchez def can hit.
Posted by: han-ram3 | July 29, 2009 at 11:01 AM
I agree...
I think the deal is done. Today's game is at noon. Look for the announcement after.
Also, if Ishikawa or Guzman don't play...they may be one of the group traded.

who cares what the cubs need, they have no chance at getting sanchez, good luck though. you'll need it

Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 11:08 AM
good luck for what? Im not trying to do anything jackass, I was just making a comment saying that they need him more than the twins. I love how regualr people like yourself think they know all this inside info. how do you know if they have no chance? are you an exec? prob not so stop with your insightful info that you feel the need to share to everyone. I'm not a baseball historian by any means, but if the Giants end up getting Sanchez, will they be the only team in history with two Fred's on the roster?....LOL
Also, Freddy is a nice little player but my only concern about him is can he pitch?

and you're annoying coming to a rumor that doesn't involve the cubs. Don't you know how to read? The giants have expressed interest in sanchez for weeks. He hasn't played vs the giants this series and the giant's trainers even checked out his knees. All signs point to him being traded to sf. So take your pleading to another rumor, cause it won't help in this one loser
Posted by: dodger$uck!!!! | July 29, 2009 at 11:18 AM
Not to say that Ishikawa and Guzman won't be traded, but if they aren't in the lineup today it will be because they are behind Garko on the depth chart
Posted by: oxfrat1665 | July 29, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Im at least talking about the topic, which was freddy sanchez, you came in just to come after me. talk about the rumor, not just hate on what other people say jackass. and the cubs have prospects worth trading for. Josh vitters? heard of him? he is too much for freddy sanchez but they still have prospects.
Posted by: han-ram3 | July 29, 2009 at 11:30 AM
Wouldnt it just make sense for the pirates to eat as much salary as possible to get better prospects? They are already paying his salary now so they would still be paying less and get better prospects
Posted by: han-ram3 | July 29, 2009 at 11:32 AM
I don't know if it is possible but because the top 4 in the system with the giants are "untouchable" I would hope the Pirates could do something like this. Trade Sanchez for Noonan, Gillaspie/Sosa, and a PTBNL. The PTBNL would be J. Sanchez. But by making him a PTBNL the Giants could use him awhile longer with the Big Unit Issue. Not sure of the whole PTBNL process but I am sure that if it works like this the Giants and Pirates could agree to trade J. Sanchez after the season.

and like i previously stated, read a little. I was posting about the rumor, until i read your post, which had nothing to do with anything, since the cubs have not linked to sanchez. and the cubs dont have prospects like the giants. Bumgarner, Posey, Alderson, and the list goes on and on

yea that wouldnt be bad at all but i dont think there going to get J.Sanchez... there going to get J.Guzman and 2 other prospects my guess is Noonan or Gillaspie they will get to choose from and they will choose one of these pitchers of Sosa/Joaquin/Tanner

Considering how all of a sudden the Gyros find themselves pitching challenged, despite Barry pitching better (bless his multi-million dollar heart) If J. Sanchez were included he would maybe be the first ever PTBNWL....Player To Be Named Way Later...lol

Lol, I agree. but that's unlikely. RJ is projected back in late august/early sept. The giants would have to call someone up. Sadowski was already called up, I don't know if i would want to see 2 pitchers called up when they are in a playoff race. Giants should have gone hard for lee and vmart. A couple prospects plus j. sanchez, lewis and a couple other players
Posted by: dodger$uck!!!! | July 29, 2009 at 11:45 AM
yea Jonathan is not coming to pittsburgh i will be shocked... its going to be J.Guzman INF good stick, N.Noonan 2B and H.Sosa RHP or C.Tanner LHP
Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 11:46 AM
"Sanchez isn't going anywhere!"
Thats not entirely true. If he starts pitching really bad again, he will probably go to the bullpen.
Again....LOL
Posted by: JP | July 29, 2009 at 11:47 AM
If the Pirates can get Nick Noonan in a deal for Sanchez, then I'd argue that they've done what they accomplished.
They get out of Sanchez's 2010 option, and Noonan would immediately become the best middle infield prospect in their system. He's only 20 and his .249/.326/.377 line isn't exactly impressive. But he's young and talented, and the good news is that he's becoming far more patient at the plate, as he's increased his walk rate from 4.4% to 10.0%.
Noonan and either Waldis Joaquin or Clayton Tanner for Sanchez?
Posted by: scribbletone | July 29, 2009 at 12:00 PM
why would the giants trade a 20 year old 2B for the 31 year old sanchez...I hope noonan will not go and its another prospect...my guess its going to be two pitchers and a infielder not called noonan
Posted by: rainyx | July 29, 2009 at 12:06 PM
Maybe the Giants will offer Eugenio "Babe" Velez
The only 89lb player to ever bomb one out of AT&T.

Pirates have traded nearly their whole team in the past 2 seasons.

2:20pm: SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Giants are in serious talks for Sanchez. The teams are discussing John Bowker, Kevin Frandsen and Jesus Guzman.
This is a joke...
right?
Posted by: UGotRPK3113 | July 29, 2009 at 02:27 PM
Jennifer Langosch says no MLB ready guys would be coming back.
If that's true that nullifies Heyman's tweet.
Posted by: BuccoNation | July 29, 2009 at 02:27 PM
I don't want Bowker or Frandsen, Guzman may be alright, but with the addition of Clement, that doesn't seem like it would make sense. They need to get some MI prospects and some pitching.
Posted by: Ian Smell | July 29, 2009 at 02:28 PM
I like how you can practically make a competitive team from the giants prospects alone. Fans for the pirates are saying who they would and wouldnt take out of the giants superpool of prospects. HA you will get what you get and like it? why? cause the giants make the decisions. Anyways, after the pirates get swept, it will be nice to take sanchez for some prospects that woulda been blocked by rookies for a couple more years anyways, good doing business with you pirates... we always seem to walk away with something better from you guys, bonds, schmidt, and now sanchez.

The pirates are the A's of the NL. Money ball till you got no one in the stands. I don't even know why you want these prospects so bad, youre just gonna trade them when they show any signs of worth.

"I have no idea what the Pirate's grand plan is. Does anybody care to give me at least a guess as to what it is? They just seem to be trading everybody that makes any significant salary..."
I said it two weeks ago... The Pirates are dumping salary. In the case of the Mariner's trade, they're actually picking up most of the tab this year, but they get a pass on Wilson's salary for next year.
Bug Selig needs to step in and tell Pirates ownership that if they aren't serious about competing, they will be forced to sell the team. What they have done with that franchise disgusts me as a baseball fan.

Its called a fire sale. It has been done before and done successfully: see Marlins, Florida.
Bay, Nady, Snell, Sanchez, Wilson, and McLouth were not likely to be on their next CHAMPIONSHIP team. These were all good players to differing extents and that is why they were dealt. Because they had value. The Bucs are trading all of their valuable vets for overall system talent and money to spend on the draft/international fre agency in order to build a championship team (yes Pit went low on their #1 pick but they have spent well on their late round overslots).
That is what their goal is. Trade their value for hopefully a greater quantitiy of value.
Posted by: bbxxj | July 29, 2009 at 02:32 PM
I think they should do the deal before the game, that way FSanchez could be on a winning team, after we sweep the pirates.

Yeah, I'm not a Pirates fan but I see what they are doing. For those who look just at the surface its going to look bad. If you look at the new regime's grand plan... they at least have one to compete.
Posted by: bbxxj | July 29, 2009 at 02:35 PM
bbxxj,
A fire sale for 17 years is enough !
Posted by: braves4life | July 29, 2009 at 02:35 PM
Bucco, Im sure you guys will make the final signature but its only cause hes fits our bill. shop him to other teams, you wont get the caliber of players for him. it doesn't matter now anyways. Pirates are like a chef who constantly undercooks things. Pullin out players right before theyre worth something. Jason bay, prime example.
Posted by: Gigantor | July 29, 2009 at 02:36 PM
Bowker, Frandsen, and Guzman?
A 26-year-old OF/1B who can't field and hasn't hit a lick through 122 games in the Majors...
A second baseman who's not good enough to stick in the Majors, hence them trading for Sanchez...
And a 25-year-old who's with his third organization...
If that's all they're talking why are the Twins not in this right now? Those "prospects" are nothing.
Posted by: MorneauVP | July 29, 2009 at 02:37 PM
Pirate fans should boycott the rest of the season. No fans in the stands would send a message.
Posted by: braves4life | July 29, 2009 at 02:38 PM
at some point, bill smith had better realize that getting a good 2nd baseman or shortstop is the top priority for the twins right now. at some point he is going to have to stop being such a cheapskate, and spend some money. they are above .500 with two stiffs (casilla, punto) starting regularly in the middle infield positions, imagine what would happen if they could add sanchez, or orland cabrera, and get rid of those 2 stiffs, and throw sanchez/cabrera at 1 spot, and brendan harriss at the other. that would give them a much needed boost in the #2 spot in the lineup, and remain a stellar defensive team. i know the rotation is banged up too, but swarzak is doing a great job for slowey, and i have to believe that liriano will come around sooner or later, otherwise throw guerrier in his spot, (he has started before) and give the setup role to jose mijares, or maybe you could get someone in the same trade to be setup man. then we should be set for a playoff run. i love the twins, and i will support them no matter what, but i do think we need an upgrade around the centerpieces
(Mauer, morneau, and gomez)
Posted by: twins4ever | July 29, 2009 at 02:38 PM
HAHA speak for yourself ian snell, oh wait, hes not even on your team so it looks like YOU dont know the pirates plans. Like i could care about them anyways, the pirates just keep giving us players so if thats theyre plan, keep it up.
Posted by: Gigantor | July 29, 2009 at 02:39 PM
Dear Lord,
I didn't even realize Frandsen's already 27 too. How is this even a discussion?
Posted by: MorneauVP | July 29, 2009 at 02:39 PM
MorneauMVP- as much as I wanted the Twins to go after Sanchez, his leg injury is a little bit concerning especially since Pitt's manager recently said that the turf in Arizona was hard on his legs. The turf at the dome isn't going to be any better. Other than Sanchez there aren't a whole lot of glaring infield options out there.
Posted by: justdeal | July 29, 2009 at 02:40 PM
Nick Punto got his token weekly hit last night, thus Twins fans will be thrilled to know that the Twins organization finds it not necessary to fill our middle IF hole.

GOOD CALL JACKASS!

bbxxj,
A fire sale for 17 years is enough !
Posted by: braves4life | July 29, 2009 at 02:35 PM
This really is different. Hunnington and Co are doing things differently. They are blowing up the ENTIRE team to restock talent at every level. They aren't just selling them off one by one.
Also if you look past the hype of this year's first round pick, they have spent pretty well on the draft since Hunnington took over.
I'm not sure why I'm defending the Pirates but I always find myself doing it.
Posted by: bbxxj | July 29, 2009 at 02:43 PM
The Twins are cheap? Not really, we're paying the worst major league position player of the last 20 years 4.25 million dollars this year. An injured Sanchez is still better than any of the garbage we've put at 2B this year.
Posted by: DouginKS | July 29, 2009 at 02:43 PM
I hope Jen is right (though I doubt it) I don't want Frandsen, Bowker, Guzman, Velez, or Burris. Those guys just aren't cutting it in the bigs. Although they are still young so they could develop.
Posted by: BucSox | July 29, 2009 at 02:43 PM
Twins4Ever:
1. Orlando Cabrera isn't an upgrade. He's Brendan Harris with more speed, an inferior glove, and a bigger price tag.
2. Did you just call GOMEZ a centerpiece for the Twins? Maybe in three years if he develops at all...
3. Guerrier is pitching absolutely lights out in the 8th. He doesn't move.
4. Mijares is allowing a .306 average to right-handed hitters. That's not a setup man.
I love the Twins just as much as you I'm sure, but that post is delusional...

"Bay, Nady, Snell, Sanchez, Wilson, and McLouth were not likely to be on their next CHAMPIONSHIP team."
That's because by the time the Pirates have a championship team, those guys will all be long retired...
Bay, McLouth, Nady... All guys who could contribute to a championship run. I get that the Bucs leadership doesn't like Snell, and his stats didn't support keeping him if they didn't want to, so no problem there. Wilson and Sanchez? Big mistake. Teams would kill for a middle infield like that. I agree that Wilson didn't have as much pop as we like to see in a SS nowadays, but he made up for it with his glove.
All that's going to happen is that the new crop of youngsters is going to start playing up to some of their potential, and then they'll be shuffled off when they're due big money.
When I see a team blatantly dump anyone making $3m or more from their roster, I call it a money play, and that's what this is. You Pirates fans who think that your ownership has some sort of plan: Get a real good look at Garret Jones, Ryan Doumit, McCutcheon, and any other good young(ish) players while you can... Once they're worth good money, they'll be out the door.

who pirates starting lineup
Posted by: seamariners2 | July 29, 2009 at 02:44 PM
The Pirates have done a good job for once and I'm as big a pessimist as their is in the Burgh.
C-Ryan Doumit, Tony Sanchez, Robinson Diaz, Jason Jaramillo. A ton of depth here.
1B-Jones, Clement. Jones has a chance at ROY!!! Clement gets better on defense he has a great bat.
2B-I'm hoping Shelby Ford is just having a off year or Freddy Sanchez brings back a nice prospect here. Delwyn young is nice at the plate.
SS-Please Miguel Sano! Ronny Cedeno and Argenis Diaz both holding this spot down until the Bucs develop one of their young prospects or sign Sano.
3B-Pedro Alverez, Andy Laroche, Neil Walker. Pedro is the future but Laroche is a nice trade chip when Alverez is ready.
LF-Gorky Hernandez, Brandon Moss, Robbie Grossman. You need two CF in PNC Park and we have plenty of power in the lineup.
CF-Andrew McCutchen, Delwyn Young. McCutchen is a star!
RF-Jose Tabata, Garrett Jones, Brandon Moss. Tabata is almost ready to join McCutchen in the majors.
Pitching will be the key but we have a lot of guys to choose from. Paul Maholm, Zach Duke, Tom Gorzellany, Charlie Morton, Ross Oehlendorf, Brad Lincoln, Bryan Morris, etc............
For the 1st time in a long time I have a little hope.

Freddy wont sniff .305 in the coming years, defense has been taking a steady step backwards, aging and injured.
Giants ain't doing anything this year anyways bro, Sanchez and Garko not going to put you over the top, LOL.
GIMME SOME PROSPECTS.
Posted by: BuccoNation | July 29, 2009 at 02:44 PM
I have no idea what the Pirate's grand plan is. Does anybody care to give me at least a guess as to what it is? They just seem to be trading everybody that makes any significant salary...
Posted by: Nick.H | July 29, 2009 at 02:14 PM
thats why the bucs picked up all the salarys you people need to get a clue just because YOU KNOW who jack wilson is doenst mean hes good... what you going to do keep jack til hes 40??? they need to rebuild and start over and they are.... you dumbasses will be back in a year or 2 when the bucs are real good
Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 02:45 PM
That 8MM due next year is cute too.
Posted by: BuccoNation | July 29, 2009 at 02:45 PM
HAHA speak for yourself ian snell, oh wait, hes not even on your team so it looks like YOU dont know the pirates plans. Like i could care about them anyways, the pirates just keep giving us players so if thats theyre plan, keep it up.
Posted by: Gigantor | July 29, 2009 at 02:39 PM
Haha, yes, that is 'theyre plan' Do they teach English in SF?
Posted by: bbxxj | July 29, 2009 at 02:45 PM
Anyone know whether or not the Giants will be obligated to share their medical findings with other teams; otherwise it gives them a grossly unfair advantage.
Posted by: Pseudofool | July 29, 2009 at 02:45 PM
2:40pm: MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports that the Giants and Pirates have a deal in place that would send Sanchez to San Francisco. The Giants will look at the infielder's knee this afternoon before deciding whether to complete the deal, which wouldn't send any major leaguers to Pittsburgh.
SO THROW OUT FRANDSEN GUZMAN AND BOWKER JACKASS HEYMAN
Posted by: BucsNewEra2011 | July 29, 2009 at 02:46 PM
We Traded Ramirez For What?- you're forgetting about Milledge in left. Personally I think that he has the edge of Gorkys for future playing time. I think that the Pirates will use Gorkys for trade bait if Milledge ends up working out.
Posted by: Ian Smell | July 29, 2009 at 02:47 PM
haha, "gayinthebay" really? as for you "smell" sorry i got you name wrong but the point right. You got nailed to a cross despite my typo, and at least typos are an error that isnt based off my ignorance. I just feel for you pirates, the the giants haven't had much luck either on their way to the top, but its "sure as hell" nice to step on you guys to get there.
Posted by: Gigantor | July 29, 2009 at 02:48 PM
Yes, really.
Posted by: BuccoNation | July 29, 2009 at 02:50 PM
Ian Smell you are right I left him out by accident. Sorry not used of having so many prospects.
Posted by: We Traded Ramirez For What? | July 29, 2009 at 02:51 PM
They don't have to share med info but Sanchez would have to take a physical before a trade happened so it's really not an advantage.
Posted by: BucSox | July 29, 2009 at 02:52 PM
Wow, this trade for Wilson and Snell is the Bedard trade all over again, except this time the taste in the mouth is real BS. We gave up WAY TO MUCH for less than adequate return. I'd rather have given up all that for Roy Halladay. Good work JZ on giving up the farm for a couple one hit wonders. But the good news is the M's won't have to face these guys in the near future, wait when do the M's play the Pirates in interleague play? No, I'm just waiting until the day these prospect are traded to the Red Sox. Enjoy your future Pirates fans.

"Gigantor,
Keep it GayInTheBay."
@BuccoNation
Look man, basing and then attacking my sexual preference on where I reside is as stupid as the pirates dumping their whole team. Sadly communicating with you likely means I will have to stoop to your level. So I answer with this enjoy "NoHitsInPits." anything else I can slam you on?

Since when are the Giants "on their way to the top". They are not going to win the wild card and certainly not the division they overpay for terrible players i.e. Rowand and Renteria. Yep their plan is really solid alright.
Posted by: BucSox | July 29, 2009 at 02:55 PM
A three year extension for Sanchez? I hope Neal says no. Bad idea if there ever was one.
And I could see one of Bowker/Frandsen/Guzman in a trade, but they would simply be a throw in, not the primary guy.
Now, I really want to know, with all this payroll being freed up, there's gotta be some offer for Sano in the works, assuming he passes his age test.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 29, 2009 at 02:55 PM
I just wish the Pirates can get some more high upside players in these deals. I actually think Milledge has some of the best potential out of any of our minor league players. I don't like any of those players mentioned in a trade for Sanchez, but we'll see what happens.
We need guys who are going to do more than what Brandon Moss and Andy LaRoche produce in full seasons. I know they're young and will hopefully improve soon, but that will not cut it. They're putting a lot of stock in these young guys if they're rolling out a team full of them, let's just hope they work out!
Posted by: bigpat | July 29, 2009 at 02:56 PM
Stay classy, bucconation. And enjoy shouting up at teams that are actually competing this year.

In all honesty lets say the tests come back and say he is 17 the Pirates should still sign him.
