« D'Backs Receive Tony Abreu To Complete Garland Trade | Main | Padres Rumors: GM, Cameron, Correia »
Outfielder DeWayne Wise has chosen free agency over a Triple A assignment from the White Sox, but there's a chance Scott Podsednik could return. According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, Podsednik's agent Ryan Gleichowski had a preliminary discussion with Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn. They'll talk again later this month.
Podsednik, 34 in March, signed a minor league deal with the Rockies in January. He was released in April, and the White Sox scooped him up. Pods went on to hit .304/.353/.412 in 587 plate appearances while playing mostly left and center field. His defense graded out as average, based on UZR and plus-minus.
MLB.com's Scott Merkin spoke to Podsednik earlier this month, who expressed a desire to return but said "we are going to wait it out and see what happens." Podsednik fell short of Type B status, so there will be no draft pick compensation involved.

I kind of hope he does come back. Figgins is gonna be mad expensive and I don't see Crawford leaving the Rays right now.

Not that I can come up with a better replacement, but do you really want to rely on a 34 year old who has shown extreme inconsistency at the plate over the years, the ability to go through several groin/hernia issues, and despite the fact that he is fast has shown that is actually a terrible baserunner.

super. i hope we get 2007 podsednik too!
i'm an atheist, but tonight, i'll be praying to the gods of baseball for danks/shelby/gartrell to come through for us.

Get it done! We really need Pods back. I cant go back to needing a lead-off hitter again. Keep him around until Jared Mitchell is MLB ready or we get someone else. Figgins will cost too much and we dont have too much money to spend. If we get Pods we might go with AJ as the DH/C and Flowers as the C/DH. That would be fine, thou i would want a better bat then Flowers, but i cant tell the future.

As much as I loved Pods this season, he just cannot be in the lineup next year. That's like playing the second round of russian roulette. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I'm guessing Williams is out there figuring it out.

Yo Rock and Roll guy no manager in baseball would ever have their two catchers on the roster in the same lineup ever, what if 1 of em gets hurt. AJ will start and Flowers will be the backup. The DH will be either an acquistion (Abreu) or an Acqusition that moves Konerko or Quentin to DH (Nick Johnson)

@Joeynach
Yeah i see what you mean. I thought its possible cause AJ plays more than any catcher in the league. I was thinking DH would be great for him. Plus he has trouble throwing runners out. They would have to hold a 3rd catcher for that to work.
Yeah forget that last post, but we do need a leadoff hitter and Podsednik gives us that. Im hoping last season wasnt a fluke like everyone is saying. He seemed pretty consistent with the bat throughout the season and i think he can repeat.

no way he maintains that BABIP.

I dont even think Pods has ever had back to back productive years. He was productive in 03, 05, and 09. Thats not really the guy u want to count on to lead off and be the fire starter to the offense. I love pods I really do, but only when he performs like a true leadoff hitter. And from the stats he does that 1 out of every 2 or 3 seasons.

If Williams doesn't sign Figgins, he should be fired immediately. Everything has been set up for that. Figgins 3B and leadoff, Beckham back to SS and Ramirez to 2B.
If the Sox end up with Pods and Rios instead of Figgins, Anderson and (Abreu?) Williams must be shown the door... inexcusable.

If Beckham back to SS and Alexi to short then why draft Getz and trade for Nix. Why are they even here.
Posted by: Joeynach | October 10, 2009 at 07:10 PM
Getz is an AAAA who plays 2B only and Nix is a poor hitting avg, fielding utility IF.

if the sox some how get crawford then how about packaging up mitchell and some players to get another pitcher maybe the likes of felix hernandez. Mitchell, Hudson, Floyd, Buehrle for Felix Hernandez

Actually Svengoolie I agree with you, but I think KW has turned the corner. He freed up spots for those guys, his guys to play and I think where in the past he would jump ship to find something better if he could he wont do that this time. He will let his guys, who he placed on this roster, have their chance to play.
