Astros Designate Jason Bourgeois For Assignment

The Astros designated outfielder Jason Bourgeois for assignment to make room for Brett Myers, tweets's Brian McTaggart.  The Astros had claimed the 28-year-old Bourgeois off waivers from the Brewers in October.  In 2009, he hit .316/.354/.401 in Triple A while playing all three outfield positions.  The Astros re-signed Jason Michaels in mid-December, lessening the need for extra outfielders.

  1. Well, that’s pretty dumb. Who will they use as fifth outfielder now? Do they really trust Yordany Ramirez more? Bogusevic will surely start at AAA.

Ah hah! Proof that the Astros organisation is run by Marxists! Throwing out the bourgeoisie!
(Somebody had to make that joke)

I think I would have liked to seen Jason Bourgeois used more as a shortstop or second baseman for the Astros as opposed to an outfield. He has a good eye at the plate and doesn’t strike out too much. The Tigers or Mets could definitely use him.

They’ll be looking for a lefty-hitting backup outfielder. I don’t know if re-signing Erstad in in the cards, but it’ll be something along those lines.

  5. This guy always dominates in AAA, surprised he hasn’t been given more of a shot as a backup or platoon option.

Could end up back in Milwaukee. They need a fifth outfielder.

Or possibly the Padres. He’d fit much better than Jermaine Dye there, and would be cheaper.
