Blue Jays Acquire Mike Jacobs

The Blue Jays acquired Mike Jacobs from the Mets for a player to be named later, tweets Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger.  Jacobs, 29, has spent most of the season at Triple A.  He's had multiple stints at the level, but this year he's hitting .260/.313/.478 in 371 plate appearances.

Jacobs cleared waivers and accepted a Triple A assignment after being designated in April.

Just a depth move. He’ll take Wallace’s 1B spot in AAA.

    Uh? nice?

    • aap212 5 years ago

I honestly forgot Jacobs was still in the Mets organization.

  3. this changes everything in the AL East.

Scream it from the rooftops: Mike Jacob is a Blue Jay!

Just did – don’t feel any different than before. EDIT: I actually feel worse.Overbay will most likely finish the year in a Jays uniform.

Oh, the wonderful “player to be named later” situation.

    • unless it’s someone from the jersey shore… the mets win this deal.

      • JohnLucarelli 5 years ago

Jacobs for JWoww. Put her in a bikini, heels and the Mr Met head. Have her stand on the dugout. I’m all for this deal.

  6. Omar won a trade, YES!

    • aap212 5 years ago

Omar’s best moves are undoing his own moves. Bad sign.

    Great, now we’ve got baseball’s worst 1st baseman to go with E5 – baseball’s worst 3rd baseman.

hopefully this is because other moves (buck/overbay) trades are in the work. dont see the logic if its just to replace wallace at AAA, are the jays so hard up for prospects at 1b that they cant promote someone?

    • TheBunk 5 years ago

No first bagger in the jays system deserves to be moved up to triple A, the only offensive players that should probably be up in triple A are Jeroloman(Catcher, old for his level, major league caliber defense) and Thames but he isn’t a first basemen and the promotion is debatable.

Jacobs is a jays type player lol, terrible average and swings for the fences, wouldn’t be surprised if he spends some time with the big club

I don’t understand. This deal doesn’t have anything to do with the White Sox.

  11. ohh thank you! I have been wondering who the Jays were going to use at 1B next season to replace Wallace, now I know. phew I will sleep a lot easier now, this is awesome! good job AA, watch out Yankees!!

It’s unfortunate people are going to assume this has any effect on the TORONTO Blue Jays. I see this is just someone who will take over 1B in AAA and that’s it. I doubt Jacobs has any playing time in Toronto next season. he does have 15 HR in AAA but with this line- .260/.313/.478/.791

    • rzepczynski 5 years ago

thank god you clarified your first paragraph was sarcastic, I can sleep a lot easier knowing your comment was sarcasm

  12. TheBunk 5 years ago

I’m assuming this is a triple A move so I really don’t care about it

  13. blizzah 5 years ago

He’s probably going to AAA. AA prob traded nothing. Its a whatever trade.

  14. rovert22044 5 years ago

    Well uhhhhhh… Nice?

Sorry guys, I am still in shock that the Mets GM made a good move…

  15. TheBunk 5 years ago

Blue Jays MLB message board is going to blow up now, calling at least four fire AA posts.

  16. Nice guy and a clubhouse favorite. Unfortunately, those two things don’t translate into the ability to know the strike zone or make consistent contact.

  17. ClarenceGaston 5 years ago

YES now we have out 1B of the future. Great Move! If he is not the 1B of the future let’s package him with Downs and send him to Cincy for Aroldis Chapman!

  18. Braves trade for Alex Gonzalez. Phillies trade for Roy Oswalt. Mets trade for a player to be named later. Keepin’ it competitive in the NL East.

  19. Chris Solberg 5 years ago

Don’t worry Omar will make up for this trade with an ugly one by tomorrow….

  20. Jacobs will fill the void at Triple A for the time being.

Once Overbay is traded, it will clear up room on the roster, where the jays will either call up a pitcher or settle with Jacobs as a bat of the bench.

Another scenario is that Lind Moves to first from DH for this season and the forthcoming.

  21. That player to be named later is actually Mike Jacobs. So in the end Mike Jacobs goes to Toronto for a weeks vacation only to end up back in Buffalo.

  22. Can’t believe we finally got him!

Just needs a couple more years to develop, he’s going to profile as a Teixeira/pujols type 1B in the near future!

    Look out AL East!

  23. judging my yesterday’s PTBNL issue with Gose, Mets may have just acquired Kyle Drebak

  24. FrankTheFunkasaurusRex 5 years ago

BREAKING NEWS: Blue Jays trade Anthony Gose (OF) for Mike Jacobs (1B) of the Mets

  25. Player to be named later: Chili Cheese Fries? A slinky? Any of the above would be a definite upgrade.

  26. kevin ahren’s ptbnl… hope not

  27. Just_MLB 5 years ago

funny how Omar has the bad rep but is able to land Johan for 3 scraps…not to mention a dozen other trades where he has ripped off other GM’s

  28. Jim Briggs III 5 years ago

PTBNL = Russ Adams’ jockstrap. He left it in Vegas.

  29. Paul Iulo 5 years ago

I know why the Mets made this deal, It’s so they can move Nick Evans up and not feel guilty about him playing in double A any more

    Swing and a miss…

  31. johnsilver 5 years ago

Guessing Jake will hit a few HR’s for the Jays and then all of a sudden turn into some kind of retread the Fan base thinks is worth a top prospect judging by reactions to what have seen so far from fellow retreads like Gregg.

Fish got the cpl decent seasons out of Jacobs power wise. He does not know how to take a walk, can barely field the position (1B) and is a strikeout machine.

If could get the guy to not swing at every off speed pitch and take some, he *might* be able to stick around some AL team as a DH, but that’s about it.

  33. wow. Blockbuster trade of the century right here. seriously? is this the best the Mets can do?

  34. Breaking News:

    Mets get: A twinkie

    • oleosmirf 5 years ago

a stale twinkie that a racoon pissed on is worth more than Oliver Perez.

  36. BrooklynPaul 5 years ago
