White Sox Tell Beckham He Will Stay In Chicago

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | July 28, 2010 at 7:47pm CDT

Gordon Beckham isn't going anywhere. GM Kenny Williams told the second baseman he won't be traded, according to Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald. The Nationals and Mariners are among the teams that like Beckham, but Williams wants to hold on to the 2008 first rounder. Gregor reports that the White Sox appear to have provided Carlos Quentin with similar assurances.

Beckham struggled early on, but has hit .345/.356/.586 with 14 extra base hits since June 25th. Yes, it's an arbitrary date, but we can safely say Beckham is hitting well. The 23-year-old posted an .808 OPS in his rookie season and still appears to be a major part of his team's future. He's under team control through 2015, so the White Sox have quite an asset.

Beckham doesn't face uncertainty this week, but others within the organization do. Daniel Hudson, Jordan Danks, Tyler Flowers and Brent Morel have all popped up in the latest rumors, partly because the White Sox are eyeing premier power bats such as Adam Dunn and Prince Fielder.

I’m sorry that Beckham isn’t as good as Wilson Ramos. Why don’t you continue to overrate your own players and stop worrying about ours.

Beckham has been in the majors for just over a year. Ramos has not been at ALL. So let’s not talk proven/unproven. And Ramos isn’t long for the Twins organization; he’s the most obvious trade candidate I’ve ever seen, considering who’s blocking his path to the big leagues. Unless you know of some dynamic 1B prospect in the Cardinals system.

The “White Sox” and Mariners are among the teams that like Beckham…

I’m guessing this typo is supposed to be the Nats or the Jays?

or Both. He would be a great Blue Jays IF. He’d be an even better Marlin.

Yeah he would fit in nicely with the Jays. Hill can move to 3B, Beckham at 2B, Escobar at SS, Wallace 1B… not a bad infield.

Beckham is a gold glove caliber 2B. He started out in a funk this year but he really has turned it on this month. He’s got pop as well. Beckham may not hit 40 homeruns but I believe he has 25-30 potential. Slick fielding 2B with pop…? Yeah I think the White Sox aren’t as dumb as people think. I believe we will keep him.
I say trade Hudson+Morel for Dunn or Hudson+Morel+Lillibridge for Adam Laroche+Edwin Jackson.
