Nats GM To Meet With Buehrle’s Agent

WEDNESDAY, 11:21am: Rizzo will meet with Buehrle's agent before the GM Meetings end, the GM told Kilgore.

MONDAY, 11:25pm: Nationals GM Mike Rizzo met for about 45 minutes tonight with Bob Garber, the agent for free agents C.J. Wilson and Roy Oswalt, writes Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post.  Afterward, Garber wouldn't say much about the talks but did note that Rizzo expressed interest in both pitchers and the sides will keep talking as the offseason moves forward.

Garber characterized the talks as "preliminary" but noted that there's enough interest on both sides of the table for talks to continue.  The Nats will also make a strong push for left-hander Mark Buerhle, a person familiar with the Nationals’ plans told Kilgore.

Oswalt or Buerhle please.  From what I’ve read it sounds like they have the experience and presence that players like Andy Pettitte bring to the table.

I don’t live in the south so i have to get the MLB extra innings package and I don’t always get the Braves announcers and listening to the Nationals announcers brag about how “amazing” the team is can be compared to passing a kidney stone so I would prefer it if the team would stay as lousy as possible.

    • natsone 4 years ago

Prepare to pass kidney stones for years to come my friend.

      • NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

you have to at least admit that listening to FP is like listening to a pilot ramble on and on and on ever so confidently about the best way to drive a boat

        • nats2012 4 years ago

I will admit this, the Braves announcers are my favortites.

          • NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

sarcasm? I personally like them but many Braves fans hate Chip Caray.

          • nats2012 4 years ago

No I really do like them, they always pull for the Braves of course but they always talk good about the team the Braves are playing. They always sound fair.

          • NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

Oh ok, fair enough. Joe Simpson gets a little heated when the Red Sox are brought up. “Those dirty stinkin’ Red Sox fans” I believe was how he referred to the impending invasion of Red Sox nation into Turner Field.

          • FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

Same as the Nats, Bob and FP always have something good to say about the other teams players. Rarely any criticism. Very fair

        • natsone 4 years ago

Can’t agree. FP is very well liked here. He’s the best color guy we’ve had. I think you just don’t like that he is so enthused about the Nats, as everyone really should be.

    • nats2012 4 years ago

The Braves announcers say the same thing about the Nationals.

    • FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

The Nats announcers are some of the best. They say good things about every team, if you listen they will rave about other teams players just as much as they do the ants players.  Why complain about it? Its a broadcast for Nats fans, and Nats fans love them and what they say

    • Jamespfunk 4 years ago

My buddy is a Nats fan living in NC and he complains about how terrible the braves announcers are all they do is talk about how great the Braves are.  I will agree with you I think the Nats announcers are terrible but i don’t think its because they brag about the team.

I hope next year we add Sizemore and Wilson.
    Strasburg
    Zimmermann
    Wilson
    Lannan or Detwiller
    Peacock or Wang
    Sizemore CF
    Espinosa 2B
    Morse 1B
    Harper LF
    Werth RF
    Ramos C
    Desmond SS
    Zimmerman 3B

    • nats2012 4 years ago

As long as none of them get kidnapped.

    • NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

is harper ready? I’ve heard multiple reports that he’s not.

      • nats2012 4 years ago

Probably Laroche will start at first and Morse in left until Harper is ready. I say probably by June.

    • LUWahooNatFan 4 years ago

I think we end up with Sizemore and Oswalt.. LaRoche will be playing 1B, and there is no chance that Harper starts the year in D.C.

      Strasburg, Zimmermann, Oswalt, Wang, Detwiler

      Sizemore CF
      Desmond SS
      Zimmerman 3B
      Morse LF
      LaRoche 1B
      Werth RF
      Espinosa 2B
      Ramos C
      Pitcher

        Think we will trade Lannan?

        • Guest 4 years ago

          id say 35/65 yes/no

        • LUWahooNatFan 4 years ago

I hope so.. Detwiler, Peacock, and even maybe Milone are better options. I think he’d be good trade bait

    • FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

I really see wilson being a bust, like lackey. Rather go for a two year deal with oswalt or others.

Sizemore would be great! Bring him back to the org. that should have had him the whole time ( and cliff lee, and Brandon Phillips)

    • slider32 4 years ago

I like the way Peacock throws, he is a sleeper.

      • Baseballfan83 4 years ago

Who is sleeping on Peacock he is pretty well known and highly thought of.

dude fp santangelo is the single best announcer ever! you must be on crack for thinking anything else about him. i would sign him to a 20 year 500 million dollar contract to announce. nah, but all bs aside, he’s awesome

  5. NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

the guy definitely has alot to say but it’s too bad that most of it isn’t correct

  6. kräftig. entschieden 4 years ago

He doesn’t claim that he was a good baseball player. In fact, he often pokes fun at the fact that he sucked on broadcasts.

  7. LUWahooNatFan 4 years ago

I’ll take FP over Dibble every day of the week…

  8. Guest 4 years ago

fp isnt that bad dude. your just jealous

  9. FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

He makes fun of himself so much!! what are u talking about? and why are you listening to the Nats broadcast so much?

  10. nats2012 4 years ago

Yankee fan talking bad about teams overpaying?

  11. nats2012 4 years ago

Whats not correct that he says?

  12. NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

when a yankee fans talks about another team overpaying in a scornful way just say “AJ” and they’ll mentally walk away with their tails between their legs

  13. baybombers 4 years ago

yeah its hilarious, he must think the yankees are built like the Oakland A’s or something as well lol

  14. nats2012 4 years ago

    AJ, Arod, Jeter, Soriano.

  15. NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

predicting pitches, predicting pinch hitters, predicting relievers and I’ve counted many times where he needs to look back into some baseball history books.

  16. nats2012 4 years ago

You have to understand for us an 80 win team, its tougher to get free agents to come to our team then it is for you guys. I think that will finally start to change now that we have alot of young talent but to get the first big free agent to sign we had to overpay.

  17. nats2012 4 years ago

    Amen to that.

  18. FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

Oh my god yes, 100 times better.

  19. nats2012 4 years ago

True but we have still been spending big money on the draft Bryce Harper, AJ Cole, Robbie Ray, Matt Purke, Anthony Rendon, Brian Goodwin, Alex Meyer etc. Remember we have one of the richest owners in baseball.

  20. Guest 4 years ago

peacock is longer. i mean bigger..

  21. NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

oh God a Drew Henson mention…I should have waited to read that until I got up tomorrow morning!! Now thanks to you, this Cowboys fan is going to have nightmares about possibly the worst draft pick in history!!

  22. FacelessGeneralManager 4 years ago

I hate all yankees fans and will never like them or the team. Im narrow-minded. This is just what came to my head when reading your stuff. Just saying..

  23. slider32 4 years ago

Both teams have the money to spend on Wilson just in different ways, it comes down to who wants him more and where he wants to go.

  24. slider32 4 years ago

Lerner’s worth over 4.2 billion according to Forbes, if he wants Wilson I’m sure he will be the highest bidder.

  25. elbeisbol 4 years ago

Yeah, whenever he talks about his playing days he’ll make comments about how he wasn’t good. He’s humble about his playing days.

I’m not even an FP fan.

  26. baybombers 4 years ago

oh did i jump too far? My bad….

  27. vtadave 4 years ago

Sort of odd that someone posting on this message board would have such hatred for an ex-major leaguer, and a fringy one at that.

  28. slider32 4 years ago

I thought that too but look what he spent for Werth, if he wants a free agent it looks like he will go get him. For the owners like the Marlins and Nats it looks like they will spend more money over the next few years to try and put them over the top, the way the Marlins did when they won the series.
