Padres Claim Neil Wagner

The Padres announced that they have claimed right-hander Neil Wagner off of waivers from the Athletics. The Padres optioned Wagner to Triple-A and moved James Darnell to the 60-day disabled list in related moves.

Wagner, 28, made his MLB debut last year, pitching out of the Athletics' bullpen six times. He has been pitching at Triple-A Sacramento this year and has a 5.49 ERA with 11.0 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 19 2/3 innings. He has a 3.58 ERA with 10.6 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in seven minor league seasons.

Third that. A .213/.290/.214 slash in Triple-A is not impressive at all, even if it is just a small sample.

I rather see Mr DP Crsip get claimed on waivers even if they must eat some of his contract.

yeah, this too. Although if its a waiver claim, the A’s could dump the entire contract on the other team and take back nothing in return (Alex Rios is an example of this happening). Or the A’s could eat some salary and get back a C+ level prospect.

Sorry, the 2 GIDPs (one of which definitely ended up mattering in today’s game outcome) were terrible. Although Melvin is looking awfully incompetent by putting him in front of the A’s (currently) best/hottest hitter.

The batting average will probably never climb again but if he can come up and give us 15-20 HR’s, I would be very happy, even if his BA were only .235
