Yankees Claim Ryota Igarashi

The Yankees claimed right-hander Ryota Igarashi from the Blue Jays, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports (Twitter links). The Yankees transferred right-hander Brad Meyers to the 60-day disabled list to create 40-man roster space for Igarashi, who will report to Triple-A.

The Blue Jays designated Igarashi for assignment on Sunday after he appeared in two games earlier in the weekend. The 33-year-old allowed four earned runs in one total inning with the Blue Jays, who acquired him from the Pirates at the end of Spring Training. He had singed with Pittsburgh during the offseason, but didn't make their Opening Day roster.

They have to have the worst pitching imaginable with all the crap they’ve collected in AAA over the past few months.

Glad you posted this 1st :-)

not trying to instigate anything here.. Just it seems the NYY have claimed about ANY worthless retread pitcher this season.. Even those without a pulse…

I hear the Yanks are extending an incentive-laden contract to Lefty Grove soon, à la Mr. Burns and his intended all-star Power Plant baseball team.

“I doubt it, otherwise we would have claimed him” – B. Cherington

I fully expect to see Justin Thomas in pinstripes any day.. Proof is in the pudding.

Edit: It’s why don’t understand. They haven’t done that bad. Sure they are having a rough time with the rotation and Rivera is out, but why this never ceasing roll of retreads?

If they made a move, I’d fully expect D.J. Mitchell to be called up first and barring another setback, Robertson could be back by next week. Thomas will not be called up anytime soon unless more injuries are to come

Not good enough for the Jays… but good enough for the Yankees.

Same with Dewayne Wise and Jayson Nix.

    • MB923 3 years ago

Could have used Nix over the recently demoted Thames perhaps (I kid)

    • lol..and how much is nix and wise doing to help the Yankees right now?
and then you wonder why they have been struggling somewhat…
