Tigers Designate Luis Marte For Assignment

Within today's announcement that the club has agreed to terms with Rajai Davis on a two-year pact, the Tigers dislcosed that they have designated pitcher Luis Marte for assignment.

Marte, 27, made 17 combined big league relief appearances for the Tigers in 2011 and 2012.  To keep up with all players in DFA limbo, check out MLBTR's DFA Tracker.

hmmm, this doesn’t make a lot of sense to me personally.

      Needed a roster spot.

Think if we really needed a roster spot so bad it would have been better not to tender the choke artist Coke.

I agree Kirk…I’ve had enough of getting Coked up.

No room, rule 5 draft is tomorrow (again no room), and fingers being crossed that he doesn’t get picked up?

Jocketty should pick up Marte, good bullpen depth. Numbers look good in the big leagues, although a small sample size. 27 years old, cost controlled.

This is the only guy on the 40 that would clear waivers

I’m a little shocked by this. Marte had originally made the team last year prior to being injured. I’d rather send Coke packing personally and let Crosby(recently converted to a reliever) compete for a BP spot in ST

I was hoping this would be Don Kelly… but DD still won’t let that guy go
