Mariners To DFA Josh Wilson

The Mariners are about to designate utilityman Josh Wilson for assignment to make room for Mike Sweeney, according to Ryan Divish of the Tacoma News Tribune. Wilson has spent time with the D'Backs, Padres and Mariners this year, playing a variety of positions, including pitcher. The 28-year-old appeared in six games for the Mariners, going hitless in two at bats. Because he pitched for the D'Backs and Padres, Wilson is probably the only position player in baseball who's allowed as many runs as he's driven in (three).   Continue Reading

Mariners Claim Josh Wilson, DFA Quiroz

For the second time today, a Padre has been claimed off waivers. This time, it's Josh Wilson going to the Mariners, according to Ryan Divish of the Tacoma News Tribune. The Mariners also designated catcher Guillermo Quiroz for assignment. Wilson, a 28-year-old utility man, has already played for the Padres and D'Backs this year, spending most of his time on the left side of the infield. He actually pitched for both clubs, too and it wasn't his first time on a big league mound; his pitching debut came with Tampa Bay in 2007. At the plate, Wilson's only hitting .156...   Continue Reading

Padres Claim Josh Wilson, DFA Duaner Sanchez

MLB.com's Corey Brock took to his Twitter account this evening for a few announcements: The Padres have claimed infielder Josh Wilson and designated reliever Duaner Sanchez for assignment. Wilson, 28, was DFA'd by the Diamondbacks this week after starting the season with a .231/.333/.269 line in 11 games. He'll provide infield depth for the Padres, especially at shortstop. We actually discussed the club's infield situation with Brock just one day ago. The D'Backs, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert, signed Abraham Nunez out of the independent league partially to compensate for the loss of infield depth. Sanchez, a 29-year-old right-hander, went...   Continue Reading

Diamondbacks DFA Josh Wilson

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have designated infielder Josh Wilson for assignment. With regular shortstop Stephen Drew back to full health, Wilson was simply no longer needed. The 28-year-old hit .231/.333/.269 with two RBI and one run scored in 11 games for Arizona this season. He seems likely to end up back at the club's Triple-A affiliate in Reno, Nevada.   Continue Reading
