Mark Teixeira Trade Rumors
Kat O'Brien of Newsday has the latest Mark Teixeira trade rumors for our perusal. According to O'Brien, the Yankees, Dodgers, Orioles, Angels, and Braves as said to be interested in the first baseman.
We've seen the Angels connected to Teixeira plenty of times, and I still don't get it. Why would the Angels move Casey Kotchman, by all accounts a fine fielder, off first base? The rumors persist, but this does not seem like a fit for the Halos. They need a third baseman.
With the Yanks, I imagine the stumbling block remains finding a package good enough for Jon Daniels without including Phil Hughes. I see this as a long shot, mainly because the Red Sox are not rumored to be after Teixeira. And I just demonstrated why I don't think the Angels will legitimately chase him. So the Yankees wouldn't be in competition with an AL contender for Teixeira (unless the Tigers get involved). There is no pressing need to give up the farm, even the non-Hughes part of the farm.
The Braves are a dark horse; I think the Dodgers and Orioles will go head to head for Teixeira. O'Brien mentions that at least eight or nine teams have expressed at least casual interest, so there are a few unknowns here. If I had to guess, I'd say Teixeira becomes a Dodger or else stays put this summer.

The dodgers make the most sense, but what about james loney, but I guess they would rather have the power of teixera, it makes sense, because they can give the most and still have an elite farm system.

I see two main problems with Teixiera in LA. One, the Rangers have got to want some kind of pitching prospects back. They can't afford to part with Billingsley and I don't think they are ready to part with Kershaw...and there's no one else really on their level. On the plus side, Teixiera in LA would finally push Nomar to the bench, or even better, another team. I believe that Teixiera would so completely upstage Nomar that he would accept a trade to another team even with the no trade clause. Of course, I would prefer that they just let Loney work his way in at 1st and push Nomar to the bench anyways. And then there's the fact that Teixiera won't extend with LA, which limits the amount Texas can get back.

umm the dodgers also have Scott Elbert, he is a purty decent prospect

well, except for the fact that Elbert had season ending shoulder surgery a while ago, yeah. He might be able to regain form, but I'm not optimisitc. Perhaps he can make it as a reliever in the Wagner mold.

"Cashman may trade one or two of the pitching prospects to make the playoffs this season, but Hughes will not be available in any trade, including any deals involving Mark Teixeira or Alex Rios."
I found this as an interesting quote in the latest Peter Gammons article. Is Rios Available?

ok my apologies, I did not know he was injured, I had knew he was a pretty good pitching prospect.

Oh is Rios rumored to be available again?
I really wish the Indians would get in on that, it really would have been ideal instead of the DavidD/Trot/Michaels mess which is providing average production at best (gee, imagine that...)

hmm if rios is available, What about salty, Id love to get in on that, but Id imagine there is very low likely hood he is available, and that the Blue Jays would ask for chuch james and salty, and I just do not see us being able to afford moving chuck james

Salty is available, at this point. If the Braves fall out of it, then no way. The thing to remember is that this is probably Bobby Cox and JS's last hurrah...they want to win, and if it takes Salty, who is blocked by McCann, then I'd think they'd do it. That being said, I really feel the Braves need pitching more than anything at this time...

according to who? any sources? god i hope not. i'd rather use sweeney and sign another OF in the offseason. if we are going to trade for an OF, i'd imagine it'd be a guy with 30 hr pop. our OF lacks power and will lack power even more after dye is gone

Re Jacque - it was just a brief seemingly random mention in a Chicago paper today. I'll write it up at some point, I don't give it much credence.

bobby cox signed through the 2008 season so this is not his "last hurrah".

Actually, the Tigers make more sense than the Dodgers, as Detroit is ready to win it all now and could offer more (while still losing less) than the Dodgers for Teixeira:

Meanwhile, the Yankees and Rangers have been scouting each other so seriously because the Yanks will likely make a move to acquire Gane or Otsuka (with the other probably going to Detroit of Jon Daniels can finally make a move that benefits the Rangers as much or more than his trading partner - and that's probably where things will turn south for the Rangers because Daniels is in over his head and Hicks is a baseball moron).
The Rangers should NOT take Hughes. They can't develop pitching prospects. Hughes may become the next Clemens somewhere, but if sent to Texas, he's more likely yo become the next Ryan Drese. The Rangers need someone with more experience at the major league level:

I think you guys are underestimating the value of Mark Teixeira.
He was one of the three top slugger in the last 2 ~ 3 years and right now he is the 2nd leading RBI leader in the hot Rangers lineup despite the fact that he has been in the DL for about a month.
In addition, he is really balanced left and right switch hitter and He was constantly hitting the ball at the both sides of the plate. On the other side in defense, He was a gold glove winner in the first baseman.
It is hard to find a guy who has brings the high level in the both sides in defense and offense.
Whatever team whether it is Dodgers or Orioles gets the Mark Teixera, they will be benefited as much as they expect from him.
