Mets Exercise Alou's Option, Re-sign Easley

According to RotoWorld, the Mets have exercised Moises Alou's $7.5MM option for 2008.  With a $1MM buyout, this was effectively a $6.5MM decision.  Even with time lost to injury Alou should be worth 3-4 wins, so the price is right.

They also re-upped Damion Easley, not sure the amount quite yet.  Maybe $1.5MM or so.  He had a nice 76 games this year and it wouldn't be the end of the world to give him the regular 2B job.

Now the Mets can move onto more important issues, like filling second base and catcher and driving up the price for A-Rod.

I guess Rosenthal's idea of moving D-Wright to LF is not goingto happen. Well, I am pleased. Alou did a solid job, and we are only paying $7M. Looks like they are starting to the plan in action. I belive next week is the GM meeting in Orlando, so I am sure Omar will start digging for pitching while he is there.

By the way, can some one explain why Billy Beane would trade Blanton for Gomez and Humber when he wanted a bigger package last year?

I was eager to hear this announcement when the press conference was called earlier, knowing that the declining of Alou's option would have been a major sign of the Mets making a play for A-Rod. Guess that's over.

Unless the Mets decide pay big and A-Rod pulls off another seamless position switch to 2B, then you can count the Mets out.

The Angels are looking more and more like his destionation for '08.

As far as 2B for the Mets, it still makes sense to bring Castillo back, alongside Easley.

i thought there was talk of moving cavid wright to 2b at one point to try and accomodate a-rod?

David Wright... will not got to 2nd Base. He maybe go to the outfield (RF) and eventually to 1st base. 'm sure Omar will be shopping Delgado, like crazy... see if he can get a bag of used balls or something. I believe the Met's would be willing to Eat Half his salary in a trade. With an infield of

1st Wright
2nd Castillo
SS reyes
3rd Arod
Wow what an infield.

And yes I am delusional.... i do think Arod will be an Angel, when all is said and done.

Well the mutts will have to relie on Mr.Pee hands and pray he stays healthy more than 100 games. This move signifies that Gomez or Milledge are gone for pitching.

The mets arent getting a-rod they r simply being used by boras....they will though aquire Johan Santana for a package of gomez and pelfrey and humber.......theyll resign castillo for around 2 yrs 18 million dollars....give milledge complete control in right.

No way the Twins take that, they will laugh at that offer. Gomez is a B prospect at best, Pelfrey is Kyle Davies, and Humber is a #4 starter at best.

the Mets don't match up well to trade for Santana. The twins have 10 pitchers that are similar to Pelfrey and Humber. They really don't need anymore.

Gomez however is a very nice prospect, but it will take alot more than him to land Santana. And I don't think Reyes would be included, but that's what the Twins would want.

The mets aint getting arod if the did there going to lose alot of fans. Moving david wright would be a bad move.

"This move signifies that Gomez or Milledge are gone for pitching."

Not even remotely. You make it sound as if we just locked up an outfielder for 10 years. Alou will be here for one more year, Gomez needs one more year before he is ready. Not rocket science. A-duhhhhhhhhh

I cant think of one fan the Mets would lose be signing A-rod. There isnt one that I know of. They might gain some fans. Again, why is moving Wright such a bad move if he is willing to move. We are not talking about Mike Schmidt or Scott Rolen or Brooks Robinson defensively here people. He could easily make the transition to first or second base IMO.

What in the world does Alou's option being picked up have to do with milledge or gomez? If you really think about it, it would be wise for the mets to hang on to both of them. Milledge could start in right, and gomez would be a great fill in for alou in the likely chance moises gets hurt again (I, at least, would want gomez over endy as an everyday player.) Now, some of this i sbecause i would much rather the mets hang on to those two instead of getting a good starter back, but it seems to me the mets would be wise to use their lower level stars to get what they need.

So, in other words Bravesfanuc, please do not let your dislike for the mets lead you to making ignorant posts, because we do not want others to judge the rest of the braves fans based on your stupidity alone.
