Yea, when i first saw edwin jackson, i was immediately liking the idea of jackson in a pitcher's park, i think he could be a decent back end of the rotation starter, the only thing is that i figured the drays would ask for jeff clement in return, which really makes no sense, but if ben broussard is good enough, that could be a nice trade for both the rays and the m's

@bravesbeast
I agree - Clement is WAY too much for Jackson. But if Broussard was enough (though I'd have to think he wouldn't be), that's a no-brainer.

The A's are always looking for more starting pitching... maybe Landon Powell their triple A catcher would be enough for TB. He's a former 1st round pick and has been coming on strong, but is blocked by Kurt Suzuki and Rob Bowen.
That would allow the A's the keep The Duke in the bullpen without subtracting from the ML roster.

I'd love to see Edwin in a Mets uni... but I don't think the Rays want Delgado...
A guy can dream, can't he?

Cardinals get: Edwin Jackson
Rays get: Mark Hamilton

The Rays want a VETERAN first baseman or a YOUNG catcher. So Hamilton wouldn't work (he probably didn't have enough value anyway)
What about Bryan Anderson? Almost a fair swap, though i'd give the edge to Anderson in terms of upside.

We must be talking about a different Edwin Jackson.
The Edwin I know posted a 5.76 ERA and a staggering WHIP of 1.76. That WHIP makes Jeff Weaver look like a solid pitcher at only 1.53.
Paying anything more than spare change for Jackson is a waste. The Dodgers knew he wouldn't pan out and so he was traded. The pitching deprived Rays (5.53 team ERA - WORST in baseball) don't want him.
He has good stuff so it's worth taking a chance but to give up more than a bag of balls would be foolish.

I wouldn't trade a new bag of balls for Edwin Jackson...maybe a used ball bag at most

Are you guys serious???
Jackson just turned 24 and has outstanding stuff. He is a great low risk/high reward type that could become the pitcher he was thought to be if something clicks mentally for him. If the Mariners can pull him by giving up Broussard plus maybe Rob Johnson, you have to do that in a second! Broussard is going to have the same bench role as he did last year and will make ~ 4million. He probably would put up good numbers if given a full time job but since the Mariners are determined to keep running Sexson out there, why let him rot on the bench another year? Give the guy a chance in Tampa.
No brainer if you're Seattle.

Tim, please explain!
Has Carlos Pena dropped off the face of the Earth? He is a veteran 1B that played for the Rays last year, he bats lefthanded, and is arbitration eligible this year. Not only did he have a great year last season (he ranked 10th in the MVP balloting), but he likes playing for the Rays and they like him.
Why would the Rays want another LH bat at 1B?

hummm...
So its from "M's interested in Johan Santana" to "M'S interested in Edwin Jackson"? You serious?
Wow, talk about not being picky...

They don't want to replace Pena, but supplement him in the line-up.
I would bet that the Rays want a lefty bat like Broussard for 1/2 of a DH platoon.
Neither Gomes or Baldelli hit righties really well, and one of those probably forms the other half.

I don't know how you can qualify the guy as low risk. In my book, any pitcher that consistently posts 5+ ERA's is pretty high risk.
Jackson is another "toolsy" kind of player. Nobody is arguing with his stuff. He just hasn't been able to put anything together. Again, if the Rays are talking about moving him then they too must have given up hope that he can be a good pitcher.

I think the mariners should trade Raul Ibanez for Ben sheets, Brewers are looking for a left handed outfield bat and we need pitching. could be an interesting play for both sides.
