Padres Rumors: Iguchi, Prior, Cameron

Padres rumor guru Tom Krasovic checks in with the latest.

  • Why does Tadahito Iguchi love San Diego so much?  He passed on far superior offers (and hitter's parks) from the Rockies and Phillies.  The Padres have definitely developed a competitive advantage over the years in that guys will make concessions to play there.
  • Nine teams have expressed interest in Mark Prior, according to his agent.  The Astros are confirmed.  The Reds, Rangers, and Phillies are other possibilities.  The Padres haven't checked in yet but they are expected to.
  • Talks are still ongoing between Mike Cameron and the Padres.

Have you been to San Diego? Who WOULDN'T want to play there? That might be the nicest city on the planet. Perfect weather, year round. Beautiful women. Super clean for a big city. It's amazing.

I'm surprised MORE people don't want to play there. Petco is a great park too.

I definitely expect both Cameron and Prior to sign with the Pads (good moves on both) and that should basically set them up if they can get one more OF. Obviously Bay would be huge.

Mike Cameron is a joke. He's facing a 25 game suspension to start the season and he's acting like he's a top flight free agent.

I wish KT would move on and look into trading for younger CFs like DeJesus, Willits, or McLouth.

Even guys like Patterson and Pierre might be better options. At least they should be throughtout the season from beginning to end.

Damn you Iguchi!!! Turning your back on Charlie Manuel, likely the only man in the world with an 8th grade education that speaks Japanese with an Arkansas accent

There must be some kind of serious kickback deal in place in San Diego. Maybe they get complementary spa, massage, bar, and limo service before/after each game?

Got to love san diego... Why arent we calling Aki at all so we can have our japanese interpreter have two clients?

I would perfer josh towers over prior and even patterson over cameron. when cameron is out the first 25 games, who will play his spot? Steve Finley? And he always takes 25 games to warm up into the season so he will be worthless for the first 50 games. Also we would get another sandwich pick if we let him walk.

And did someone recomend pierre? dear god! I wouldn't walk to touch that contract with a 10 foot pole!

That's the first time I'v heard someone say they'd prefer Pierre.

You don't even have a 10 foot pole, but Pierre blows...

I agree, who wouldn't want to play in San Diego? The only reason would be hitters who want to put up numbers because they want to get paid...but if the Padres are already giving them a big contract...well, there is nowhere nicer to play. That city is as close to paradise weather-wise as they get

"I agree, who wouldn't want to play in San Diego?"

Usually, money has alot to do with where a player wants to play. San Diego usually doesn't have lots of that to throw around. Plus some players, who would demand lots of money, usually like the exposure of playing in bigger markets....

Plus your house might burn down in San Diego.

Darin,

Why be an idiot and make a comment like that, it just shows how heartless you are. It is not worth it.

And also, another reason, besides the very good ones mentioned here, san diego is still young and competitive, so not only r u in paradise, you are gonna have some success.

San Diego has lots of great strippers.

First off, does Juan Pierre is that the lowest OPS of any + .300 hitter in baseball history or what? This guy is unbelievable. A SLG% of 353 is just plain ugly, i mean pitchers can match that!

Also is it really "heartless" to state an obvious fact. San Diego is prone to fires.

@ bravesbeast

actually I didn't gain anything out the comment that could have been considered of value. So I'm perplexed by the "not worth it" part of your little rant. Furthermore, please correct me if I'm wrong, but San Diego has had a couple of bouts with wild fires the past 4 or 5 years.

@ Dave

It has too. SD's a Navy town!

Vizcaino to the brewers for 2 years, 7 million.

WFAN is reporting that Vizcaino has agreed to a 2 year deal with the ROCKIES.

Someone must have mixed up their information...

WFAN is mixed up. It is indeed the Brewers.
