| Three-Team Deal Fell Through »

UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 2:17pm: Molony confirms that the Rays have talked to the Astros about Scott, though the Padres are still the frontrunner.
FROM 12-6-07 at 8:29am:
A few minor Rays nuggets (hat tip Drays Bay)...
- Marc Lancaster talked to Scott Boras about the possibility of Carlos Pena signing a long-term deal with the Rays. Pena is eligible for free agency after the 2009 season. Boras indicated that Pena would go year to year. If 2008 and 2009 are in the stratosphere of what Pena did in '08, he's looking at four years, $60MM easily in my opinion.
- Adam Rubin reports that the Rays are eyeing Cliff Floyd, a name we've seen linked to them before.
- Marc Topkin considers Luke Scott a realistic possibility for the Rays, Luis Gonzalez and Josh Hamilton not so much. Topkin suggests Andre Ethier could be a good match, in a separate post.

how bout a package involving scott and reid brignac? maybe the stros can throw in matt albers or somebody

I would highly doubt it as Brignac is looked at as their SS of the future and is a top 15-20 BA prospect. The Bartlett deal clouds the timing of Brignac's arrival in TB a bit but I still think he is looked at as the SS for 2009. A SS prospect with power that can actually reasoanably defend the position is a pretty good commodity.

hence my interest
it's really hard to hype the astros prospects but paul estrada is supposed to be a pretty good arm out of the bullpen. he could probably start the year on the big club. albers was pretty good when he was coming out of the pen for us last year as well
if they feel solid about barlett as their starting shortstop, wouldn't brignac stand to be trade bait for some major league ready players?

Boomshwa12,
I would agree that if Bartlett is the answer than Brignac is redundant. Though you can never have enough pitching, I would say that the Rays use Brignac as a chip for a catching prospect. (Clement, Teagarden, etc.)
If I remember correctly the Stros do have a prospect named Towles(??) don't they. Not that familiar with their system.

No way the Rays move Brignac. Bartlett isn't good enough with the bat to be their SS of the future. Brignac is one of the best if not the best shortstop prospect in baseball. He didnt play great last year, but he needs a year or two more in the minors anyways. Keep Bartlett around til Brignac is ready, then move Bartlett. This is a team playing for the future, not for today.
2010 Tampa Bay Rays
C- Dioner Navarro
1B- Carlos Pena
2B- Akinori Iwamura
3B- Evan Longoria
SS- Reid Brignac
LF- Carl Crawford
CF- B.J. Upton
RF- Joel Guzman
DH- Jonny Gomes
Rotation: Kazmir, Garza, Shields, Price, McGee with Niemann, Edwin Jackson and Wade David as well. That team could rape so hard

yea they do have towles, but idk how open they would be to trading him. he supposed to start for us next year, and i think trading him for brignac would just open another hole at catcher
point taken though that he can probably be used to address other needs. texas and seattle aren't exactly in need of shortstops at the moment. the cardinals might be a match there for bryan anderson. that's the best one i can think of

No name poster,
If the last line of your post is true, remind me to go nowhere near Tampa Bay in 2010. Yikes!
I'd believe it if Elijah Dukes was still with the team.
