« Mets Rumors: Manny, Ibanez, Bullpen | Main | Rosenthal's Latest: Tejada, Laird, Renteria, Sherrill »
12:51pm: MLB.com's Jim Molony says Brocail, Geary, and Jose Valverde aren't going anywhere since the Astros are actually looking to add to their 'pen.
11:21am: ESPN's Peter Gammons says the Red Sox have been discussing Doug Brocail with the Astros.
9:57am: Boston's top priority at the trade deadline seems to be relief help, if anything. They were linked to several relievers this morning.
Sean McAdam of the Providence Journal says the Sox "are interested again and expect expect to get back to the Royals on Ron Mahay." Mahay is generally believed to be unavailable.
Rob Bradford of the Boston Herald has the Red Sox eyeing Geoff Geary, Brian Fuentes, George Sherrill, and Will Ohman. Ohman seems the likeliest candidate, though they may have competition for him in the division-rival Rays.

What sounds like a fair trade for Ohman ?

I believe he will be a type B free agent, so it must be a sandwich pick.

Brandon Moss seems like a nice fit in Atlanta

I bet Ohman goes in the Tex trade.
I could see Geary. They could probably trade a low level prospect (maybe Carter?).
No way Sherrill goes within the divison since hes under control for a couple more years.
Fuentes probably wont get traded either.

Is Brandon Moss asking too much ? I dont know much about him.

Sox aren't getting Geary unless they have an ex-Phillies prospect to send to Houston in return.

How about Ohman for Micah Owings... if thats too much for Ohman we could even it up with Brandon Jones.

I can't imagine Moss would be asking too much. He's a nice, solid player that is unlikely to ever crack the Sox lineup full time. Still, with the Braves relative abundance of young OF, they may be more focused on a pitching prospect.

I read Moss has been playing some first base the last couple years. That could open up the Tex trade to get a couple of pitchers.

That would be great if the sox got george sherrill. He is doing awesome for the O's and he would be a great addition to the sox! hopefully delcarmen/hansen will be in the deal. It will be a though deal with other teams interested in him but the sox can pull it off. just hope if we get him he won't be like the guy we got last trade deadline!!! Eric Gagne, what a joke!

What about Feliciano for Moss.
Posted by: metsfan | July 29, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Moss for Ohman sounds fair to me. I just don't think thats the position ATL would want. He's a solid prospect and while in the minors was thought of by some as better prospect than David Murphy. Without a real place in Boston I think they would be willing to make that deal and take 2 monthes of Ohman and a pick for Moss.

I don't see the Astros trading Geary or Brocail unless they get something back in return that makes sense. Both are signed for cheap.

As much as the sox need to fix the bullpen, I'd be content with a low level move.
Posted by: Meoveryouok | July 29, 2008 at 11:48 AM
moss has played some first base but not much. probably not enough that another team would consider him "experienced" at the position.
as uconnhuskies pointed out moss was, at times, thought to be a better prospect than murphy. moss is believed to have better power while murphy was a nice all around player who didnt do anything great but nothing poorly.

NEWSS
Phillies and Royals are close to swapping LHP Ron Mahay and top SS prospect Jason Donald. Seems like a solid addition by the Royals, they were really in need of some middle infielders.
"Left-handed reliever Ron Mahay could be on the verge of heading to the Phillies.
According to clubs that have been speaking with the Royals, they've been having extensive conversations with the Phillies about a trade that would send Mahay to Philadelphia for shortstop prospect Jason Donald, a member of the U.S. Olympic baseball team."

I think if they want an inexpensive but solid guy Grabow is their best option they wouldn't have to give up a top tier prospect and he has low risk. Another option would be Grabow and Wilson for Lowrie and a mid level.

I really do feel bad for you Astros fans.
Your management is f*cking idiotic.

I'll put money on Weathers to the Bo-Sox

Poppa- stop with the PTI thing already!
Pedroia- what would you think of the O's sending Sherrill, Huff, and Chorye Spoone (borderline Top 100-150 prospect coming into the year, but has had nagging injuries- nothing particularly serious- most of this year) for Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden, and Chris Carter (the AAA 1B- I feel I need to specify with all the Chris Carters that seem to be out there). Sherrill gives you lefty relief help, Huff is versatile and can help anywhere and provides Ortiz insurance, and Spoone just kinda evens things up a little, since Bowden is, admittedly, an upper tier prospect (though seemingly blocked with the rotation you guys have up there- Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester, Buchholz, possibly Masterson, Wakefield...where's he fit?) Just another idea...
