« Jake Peavy Rumors: Saturday | Main | Cubs Focusing On Bradley »
8:44 am: According to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, the Angels are "believed to have offered at least $160MM." This would match the Washington offer and put pressure on Boston to match or exceed the offer.
12:03 am: Angels GM Tony Reagins said this evening that he has made an eight-year offer to free agent Mark Teixeira. Yesterday we learned the Orioles are around seven years, $140-150MM and the Nationals are at eight years, $160MM. We're not sure about the Red Sox.

The way this stuff goes, if Tex signs with the Angels or Boston, his critics will say he just wants the money, and, his supporters will say he wants to win. If he signs with the Nats or Orioles, his critics will say he doesn't care about winning, and, his supporters will say he cares about things more than money.
I think most people here are arguing from their own biases extending from their own favorite team. Personally I think it would be great to see him sign with the Orioles. He'd be the new face of the franchise like Cal was. The local kid denies the big market teams against all odds and comes back home to his boyhood team.

The very fact that the Orioles are still in it is sort of absurd, if you think about it. With any other marquee Free Agent, teams like the Orioles would be quickly lopped off the list eventually. The very fact that the Orioles are in the list of final 4 suggests that there just may be a lot behind the idea that Teixeira really does want to be an Oriole. Not sure if that's going to happen, but, the Orioles did offer a serious contract. They're not just posing.
One of the rumors out there, supposedly put out by a GM, reported by Roch Kubatko, was that the Boston rumor being in on the bidding is nonsense and just bluffing done by Boras, which is why we don't know what the supposed Boston offer is, that is, because there isn't one!

"Also, you Boston fans do realize that Tex had a bad experience with your organization when he was drafted out of high school right?"
You realize that was like 10 years ago and a totally different ownership/fo group right? So, like it might has well have been the Expos right? Ohhhhhh K.

Uncannymanny, the comments by gamma are 100% the truth regardless of ownership group.... He and his family felt embarrassed by the Redsox on the comments that he was unsignable because he wanted to pursue a degree at GT. Having grown up across the river from him and based on the conditions of his mom overcoming cancer, I think the Orioles are the frontrunner, allows him to be around his family and friends more. In addition, their offer is the best financially per year that has been reported (not known from Angels, but he's not going back so move on Angels fans) at 7 years 150mil or 21.4 mil a year unless the Redsox go to 200 mil over 8 which I think there play in it all is to raise the price on the Orioles to get one more year for Boras. I think you can expect an announcement and a press conference on DECEMBER 22nd that he is coming home..
