« Tigers Acquire Aubrey Huff | Main | Royals Agree To Terms With Chris Dwyer »
MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo hears that Shelby Miller has agreed to sign with the Cardinals for $2.9MM. They selected him 19th overall in the June draft. Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that Miller receives the biggest bonus of any first rounder to sign so far this year. It's the second-biggest bonus in Cardinals history.

I'd love to see him develop quickly (and he should being a college arm) and join Carpenter and Wainwright (whose imo the most underrated pitcher in baseball).

Big signing to start to re-build the system! :)

Oops my mistake I confused him with Alex White for some dumb reason. Miller was taken out of HS not college.
Still hope he develops quick.

Where are all the Red Sox fans screaming about the spending here?
Oh wait, that only happens when the Yankees sign a prospect over slot.
Great deal!

Miller was someone that St. Louis obviously had to sign.
Between guys moving up to he majors (Rasmus, Freese, Motte) or being moved in trades for rentals (Wallace, Peterson, Mortensen, Perez, Todd), the Cardinals have lost a lot of talent from their system, which is now headed by Jones, Vasquez, Garcia, Lynn, Kozma, Anderson and Boggs.
Miller is immediately the best prospect in that system as far as I can tell.

Vasquez will drop off the prospect rankings for the Cards...I have seen him play twice and his defense is very bad. His bat has not caught on at single A either. Anderson might lose his status too.
My guess is the top 3 will be Miller, Jones and Mateo. Although Garcia is one to keep an eye on. He has looked good in his first few appearances after TJ surgery.

OMG the Yankees paid 2x slot money for Miller?!?! Oh wait St Louis signed him? Ok no one overreact then.

Right, the Cardinals signed Wagner Mateo as well, I forgot about that one.
Okay the Cardinals still have a little top flight talent in their system.

Don't forget Shane Robinson or Adam Ottavino. Probably not top five but not far off. Be on the lookout for Xavier Scruggs moving up that list.

Do you guys not recall seeing Shane Robinson earlier this year? He looks like a small bat boy.. the bat is bigger than him! Daryl Jones and Allen Craig are more promising than him i think.

Ottavino and Robinson are having down years but still are looking at futures in the bigs. Hoffpauir should be our 2010 2B.

I am not looking for Miller to be in the majors until 2011 or 2012.
