« Odds & Ends: Chapman, Felix, Jays, Valentine | Main | Brewers Unlikely To Be Major Players For Lackey »
Rangers GM Jon Daniels tells Jeff Wilson of the Dallas Morning News that he will look to improve his team by remaining active in trade talks. The Rangers are looking for relievers and a right-handed bat, but don't expect them to go after top-tier free agents.
Instead, they expect to be involved in trade talks, though Daniels is in "no hurry" to trade away the pitching depth that kept his club in the pennant race late into this past season.
On another note, the Rangers, who will likely open next season with a payroll under $70MM, do have interest in bringing Milton Bradley back, but only if the Cubs take on a considerable portion of the $21MM remaining on the outfielder's contract.

Well, they do still have a number of backup-quality catchers they would be willing to trade for a couple of your top prospects.

So I guess the Rangers/Lackey/Halladay speculation can stop.

Pathetic. Considering the up-and-coming young talent the Rangers have offensively and pitching-wise, spending a little money this offseason could go a long way in challenging the Angels in 2010. I won't say the Angels will be weaker due to their likely loss of a key free agent or two, but they are a team in a bit of flux with no real help coming from the minors any time soon unless you count Brandon Wood.
If the Rangers could grab Lackey or Halladay, a mid-priced reliever, and one more hitter (even a DH), they'd be looking quite good next year.

I would guess that with the amount of interest Bradley has drawn so far the Cubs aren't going to be too quick to deal Bradley to the Rangers considering their need to have the Cubs pay a big portion of his salary. My guess would be that the Cubs are more likely to take a bad contract back and try to match the salaries up one way or the other rather than paying a team to take him. If the Rangers are willing to part with a descent prospect then the Cubs might consider it but it seems that they'd rather fix the situation in a way that benefits them now rather than later.

Come on Rangers trade Holland to the Jays for Halladay ! Win win for both teams. Moreso win for the Jays in the long term, but we all know that if a team that trades for Halladay in the winter is not in contention before the deadline they are still in a great position to recoup some of the loss and trade Halladay to a contender.
Plus Holland is going to be great and the Jays should be more then happy with him as a centerpiece in a Rangers trade. Im sure the Ranger would have to throw in someone else but it would not be any of the other top flight Rangers talent.
Rangers have cash comming off the books, why not take a chance this year. Halladay and Feldman would be a rockin combo, especially since Feldman is the same type of pitcher as Halladay so he would def take the next step if he had Halladay on his own team.

When will Cubs fans realize that Bradley is just going to be non-tendered. It was a stupid mistake signing him in the first place, people said it then, and people are saying it now. Hendry should just be a big boy and realize this.

Just so they don't trade Smoak. Trade any of the starting pitching depth...but keep him (as Blalock walks in FA'cy).
If they need relievers they should knock down Ryota Igarashi who's coming over from Japan. The right handed bat could be Guerrero. jh

More bad news. Daniels is horrible at making trades- no deadline deals the last two years, failure to sell high on the catchers, no ability to evaluate talent. I won't even rehash the numrerous total failed trades.
Sure he took a superstar and put him out for the highest bidder and got back a couple future stars, but anyone can do that. Let's see something that improves the team for the NOW.

Pretty sure Halladay said months ago at the trade deadling that he would NOT waive his NTC for Texas.
Which is too bad because:
A) He's the best pitcher on the market, trade or otherwise. (Felix aint getting traded)
B)Texas has enough high-tier prospects to get a trade done.
C) No free agent in his right mind is going to sign with Texas to pitch in that ultimate bandbox.

Halladay already said he wouldn't accept a trade to Texas.

That one trade gave them a starting Catcher, starting SS, a SP in the current rotation, plus others.
He hasn't made any big deals because this was the first season they were in contention.

The Sox should go after Micheal Young for SS, They can afford his contract, he's a gold glove defender and The rangers would love some payroll flexibility. Would a package of delcarmin, Kotchman and a mid level prospect be enough considering the sox take on all of his contract?.

Nope.
If you want Young you're going to have to pony up. He's expensive but he's worth every penny and the Rangers know it. The fans would riot if that's all we got for him. I don't even want to think about trading him, but if we did it would start with Buchholz and Bard, plus we would also need somebody to replace him at 3rd. I don't see anybody in your minor league system or on your major league team that makes sense. I pass on trading him if I'm the Rangers. I don't really see the Sox as a fit for a Young trade. Maybe if you guys got another team involved. Still, I don't want to trade him at all.

You know Steven if Daniels would go for your deal then Halladay would already be a ranger and the Jays would have Smoak, Holland, Feliz, Teagarden and Josh Hamilton.
Unfortunatly for the Jays Daniels is not a fool. Young is a premium player who hits 300 is double digits in homers everyyear and can play most infield spots respectably.
I'd say Delcarmen and Bowden and then your talking. Kotchman ? why

BaseBalz,
Bradley can't be Non-Tendered since he is signed to a contract for two more years. You can only non-tender an arbitration eligible player. He can be cut, and then the cubs pay his whole salary.

Whats new the Rangers arent willing to spend money. It pretty sad when the Royals have a bigger payroll than you. Upper management wonders why ranger fans dont go to games anymore. This franchise has went from playoff worthy to a total joke in the 10 years since Hicks has bought this team. So bringing bradley back in here seems like a fit....since the rangers are run by a bunch of jokers anyway

The redsox want Young. There morons for trading Hanley Ramierez in the first place. Beckett was gonna be a free agent sooner or later.
