Rowland-Smith Remains With Astros

Pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith cleared waivers, elected free agency, and re-signed with the Astros on a minor league deal according to this tweet from Alyson Footer.  The Astros signed Rowland-Smith to a big league deal in December, so these machinations allow him to remain with the organization without taking up a spot on the 25 or 40-man rosters.  He can join the Oklahoma City RedHawks in Triple-A and await a potential opening with the big club.

If he can’t stick with the Astros, he must REALLY suck.

I keep thinking that. This guy was legitimate before 2010… how is he so bad now that he can’t be a decent bullpen option for us? Has anyone in our organization SEEN our pitchers?

It’s a shame that one bad season (-3.6 bWAR, the worst in MLB last year) completely negated his previous three seasons (combined +3.3 bWAR) and might end his career. If this is it, he could always go back to Oz to surf and play for their new baseball league.
