AL West Notes: Hernandez, Mariners, Angels, Barajas

By Zachary Links | November 14, 2011 at 11:50pm CDT

Here's a look at a few items out of the American League West..

  • Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has no intentions to trade Felix Hernandez and the organization plans to build around the 25-year-old right-hander, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
  • The Angels called to express interest in Rod Barajas after he had already committed to the Pirates, tweets Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
  • The Angels announced that former big leaguer Hal Morris has agreed to terms on a multi-year contract to become the team's director of pro scouting, writes Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times.  After retiring as a player Morris scouted amateur players from 2008-2009 for the Pirates  before joining the Red Sox in 2010.

“Jack Zduriencik has no intentions to trade Felix Hernandez”  Freakin Crap!  We have to go over this crap again?!  For God sakes please let there not be any Yankee fans reading this.

I would think you’d want them to read it. They seemed to have ignored it the other 3000 times it was posted and the other 8000 times it was said on New York Sports Radio.

I have never seen a player NOT being available be such big news.  Seems they have to reiterate it over and over every offseason.

Now he has done it.  Seattle has stated that Hernandez is off the market, having never been on it, but that won’t stop Yankee fans from posting insulting trade offers again on the boards.  They do it every time without having to be prompted.  You then see ten thousand future rotations listed with Hernandez leading Sabathia, etc, as it means diddly to anyone, except a waste of time.  You then see the continuous Montero isn’t worth Hernandez or he can’t be included, because he is too valuable in New York garbage.  If he is too valuable, what does that make King Felix, the fifth starter on most teams?  It is like, get real or get off the boards.  lol.

I agree but explain how the trades are insulting. Most if not all of them include Cano and/or Montero along with other high pitching prospects, some of whom in the top 50.

Overall I do agree with you, the proposals and “rumors” are annoying.

Cano is insulting.  He only has 2 yrs of control left at $15mill apiece!  That’s how its insulting.

We could have Mathis catch this year and I guarantee you the Halos will win the Freeway series. All Day!

Can we start another thread with trade proposals for Clayton Kershaw? I figure we need about 150 more to catch up to all of the Felix Hernandez trade proposal threads.

@cyberboo its common sense!!! and yankee fans see it and mariner fans are to stuck with felix and are to stingy to see what they could get.. you get an amazing bat for the future. (granted not very good defensively) and a nice arm in betance

Montero and Betances alone is pretty laughable for King Felix, not that he’d be traded in the first place, which he won’t (by all accounts). He’s even gone as far as expressing his desire to stay with Seattle well beyond the end of his current contract.

I’m sure the M’s have listened to numerous offers for Felix from many different teams…obviously nothing worthy enough to prompt a move.

I’m sure NY has made an offer a few times including Betances and Montero.

Yanks want someone who is off the table, they better offer someone who is off the table as well.

Maybe Granderson+montero+betances would get the Ms to listen.

If by “listen” you mean pick up the phone, hear the proposal, then hang up.Yes, The Mariners will listen.

Not sure how that’s a bad proposal. Granderson and Felix have each played 6 full seasons, Hernandez has a slight edge in WAR, 32.7 to 30.7, and Montero and Betances are 2 of the top 50 prospects in baseball. Explain how that trade would be bad for the Mariners? That trade actually sucks big time for the Yankees.

Please note to Yankee haters, I was not the one who started that offer, I just continued on lol.

Ms dont need and dont want to deal Felix.  If Yanks and any other team wants him, its gotta be a killer offer.

Y’all can hate on the Rangers all you want. We all know it’s jealousy because we are clearly the better team. The Angels will not even sniff the playoffs for quite some time.
We take your players that you’ve tossed away and flip into value (Vlad), or support them when they become one of the best catchers in the game (Nap).
It’s interesting how Napoli likes playing in Texas so much more than in Anaheim. He loves our clubhouse, our demeanor, and knows we will be contending for the foreseeable future.
Where will the Angels be? Losing ground to the mariners and A’s year after year after year.
