Links for Monday... The Cardinals still don't have a deal with Trever Miller. Is a multiyear deal coming soon for Jamie Moyer? Ken Mandel's source says it's been delayed only because of scheduling conflicts. The D'Backs released infielder Jamie D'Antona, who is headed to Japan. J.P. Ricciardi says trading Roy Halladay hasn't even crossed his mind. Dan Graziano wrote last Wednesday that some continued to insist the Jays would explore trading their ace. River Ave. Blues considers Ben Sheets a better investment than A.J. Burnett for the Yankees. Jim Allen profiled the five Japanese players who plan to come over...

A note from Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: I've been told it’s highly doubtful the Twins will sign a Type A free agent, which would cost them their first-round draft pick next June, though they have checked into some of the Type A relievers and are in a “Never say never” mode. The Twins own the #23 pick in next year's draft. Players such as Orlando Cabrera, Doug Brocail, Juan Cruz, Darren Oliver, and Russ Springer would presumably cost them that pick. Christensen also notes that the Twins had strong interest in Jeremy Affeldt and scouted Dayan Viciedo.

FRIDAY: According to ESPN's Enrique Rojas, Viciedo gets a four-year deal. South Side Sox offers commentary. THURSDAY: According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox reached an agreement with 19 year-old Cuban third baseman Dayan Viciedo on a big league deal worth about $11MM. Alexei Ramirez and Jose Contreras should help Viciedo get comfortable when he joins the big league team. In June, it was reported that 14 teams expressed interest in Viciedo.

Some news from the winter leagues and beyond: Kendry Morales homered and doubled in Dominican Winter League play yesterday. "Morales is 9-for-23 and has homered in four of his six games in the Dominican Republic," reports Rotoworld. "He's trying to force the Angels to open up either first base or DH for him next year." Of course, if the Angels can't re-sign Mark Teixeira, Morales may not have to do much forcing (as the Angels have known all along). Seen as the future "Babe Ruth of Cuba" until he defected, Dayan Viciedo has been cleared by MLB to be a...

Time to round 'em up. The A's are leading the charge for international free agent pitcher Michael Inoa; they could offer him $4MM. All teams have scouted him. MLB.com's Jim Molony names the Astros, Yankees, Cardinals, Angels, Mets, and Pirates as teams considering Cuban defector Dayan Viciedo (assuming he becomes a free agent). The Orioles would like to sign Ben Broussard, if he'll accept a minor league assignment. Broussard if mulling his options and should sign within 24 hours. He could step in if the Orioles trade Kevin Millar. Jeff Weaver has been released by the Brewers. Weaver's lost it;...

Let's catch up with some more links. Jay Gibbons took my advice! He'll join the independent Atlantic League. Mark Shapiro is still holding out hope that the Indians can contend. The Marlins are close to signing Kyle Skipworth, the sixth overall pick. The Phillies released Steve Kline. Might be time to hang it up. MLB told teams not to contact Dayan Viciendo until his situation is resolved. The Reds may look into it after that. Peter Abraham ponders scenarios for the Yankees to acquire C.C. Sabathia.

Today's link collection. The Yankees are in the mix for Cuban third baseman Dayan Viciedo, as are 13 other clubs. The Mets designated Abraham Nunez for assignment. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Hank Steinbrenner gets a monthly magazine column...this should be interesting. Jay Gibbons is begging for a minor league deal. Might make sense to join an independent league and prove himself. Additionally, Barry Bonds' agent has talked to all teams and can't get a bite at the minimum salary. Juan Uribe wants to stay with the White Sox. In the same article, John Danks sounds open to...
