I love the idea. however, i think its a lot easier to say this is what should happen. i dont really see either one of those situations happening. but i can hope. Burrell is an ideal LF because of the power the sox would lack if owens or sweeney were to start in CF. But i dont see philly just giving away burrell for a lower level prospect, especially since they are poised to lose rowand.

last year Philadelphia would have gladly eaten half Burrell's contract to get a B prospect. this year there should be zero chance in hell of that happening.

I wouldn't entirely put it past Gillick, who seems to have a Philly talk radio level of irrational hate for Burrell, but I don't think even he would be that stupid.

This White Sox thing crosses the line of overrating draft picks. Before, the draft pick compensation was undervalued (which is why Billy Beane racked them up), but now it looks like the mindset has undergone an overcorrection.

If this plan were executed, the White Sox would end up spending almost $30MM for four draft picks outside the top 15, and possibly none in the 1st round at all. The bust rate for 1st rounders is a lot lower than it used to be thanks to better scouting/use of stats, but not low enough to justify spending that kind of money (especially considering that most of the top talent is highly concentrated in the top 10-15 picks of the draft)

Joe Crede could be packaged with a B level prospect for Burrell or Furcal.

I would love for the braves to get back in on baldelli, but the rays would still ask for too much. Baldelli, Francouer, Mccann, KJ, Yunel over the next 3 or 4 years would be awesome, and then that would give us good reason to use Gorkys or Schafer to get a very good young starter. My guess is that it would take jurrjens and lillibridge to talk about baldelli, and i am not so sure i would give up that much to get him. However, that package could be used to get us a nice young centerfielder or effective pitcher.

..it hurts alot to hear rumors about burrell leaving..im a die hard philly fan and i respect the fact that he still loves to play here no matter how many boos he hears and i wouldn't be surprised if they looked to resign him in the offseason next year obviously with good faith in mind involvin pat and he would be a great addition at 7 mil a year..however he probably could net us a number 2/3 pitcher right now like derek lowe who i would love..but if rowand leaves there is almost no chance they trade pat unless they look into jose guillen who i could see as a great fit in philly!..

"Curt Schilling was in Philly to watch the Eagles last night. "

Thats funny... the eagles were also in Philly watching a football game last night. They all wanted to see T.O. go nuts on and mock the philly fans all night. Well, they got their wish

I think Rolen could go to the Yanks if Lowell doesn't hit the market. Cards could pick up some of the salary but get a decent prospect out of it. I don't think the St. Louis offense can take too much of a hit though, they suck as it is.

Rolen isn't going anywhere because no one is going to offer anything for him and the cards are going to have to eat some salary.

If we could unload that 36mm I would be ecstatic. I feel bad for Rolen, he was my favorite Card in 2004 before Choi knocked his shoulder out. 3 major surgeries in 2 years shows no sign of hope. still gold glove D tho.

i really dont see the braves getting in on baldelli just for the fact of all his injuries. if the drays were looking for that much it would be an almost 0 chance the braves pursue that deal. now if were talking about crawford thats another story. the braves still need to address pitching however, Jurjjens was a great start but never have enough pitching.

How about Julio Lugo for Scott Rolen and Anthony Reyes?( i only added Reyes to make up for the 9 million difference in salary over the next three years)

But I'm just thinking out loud

Would rolen go back to Philly? We sure DONT love him here but we sure DO like winning and they need a 3b and RH bat...

Maybe Rolen for Adam Eaton(Phils fans hate him too...they are pretty cranky)

I still don't really understand why Rolen to the Yanks doesn't make a ton of sense....

They have boatloads of cash, would get GG defense, and could only have him for 3 years, something they wouldn't have with Lowell...if the cards would eat 4 mil of that...I think it fits really, really well. Maybe thats just me though...

well, I think Rolen would be a good fit for Philadelphia. but between his terrible contract and management's constant fears of negative press/fan backlash, I don't see it happening.

A few things you missed about the philly stories: Schilling was in town for his ALS fundraiser, something he's been involved with since his earlier days with the Phillies. He was at the Eagles game afterwards, most likely because the man knows how to promote himself. As for Burrell, well, he has a full no trade clause and he loves playing in Philly (believe it or not). If he's willing to waive that clause, it will only be to go to his adopted home in AZ or to his original home in Southern California. There is zero chance he ends up in chicago.
