The Nationals are in serious talks with Alex Cora about a potential deal, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson. Former Nationals utility player Willie Harris recently finalized a deal with the Mets, so GM Mike Rizzo is looking outside the organization for potential infielders.
Cora played all four infield positions in 2010, though most of his big league experience has come at second and short. The 35-year-old hit .210/.266/.278 with the Mets and Rangers last year, before Texas released him in September. Rizzo has a good working relationship with agent Scott Boras, who represents Cora and Nationals such as Jayson Werth, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg.
Though the team considered Jerry Hairston Jr. as a utility player, some in the organization believe his asking price would be too high, according to Ladson.

WOW, according to Fangraphs, Cora was worth -2.1 million dollars last year.
Whatever the Nats give him should have to go straight over to the Mets as reimbursement…

Exactly. As much as anyone bent over a barrel like Rizzo has been and would still dare to call that a good relationship. Of course maybe it’s Boras who’s saying things are good, and why shouldn’t he be saying that?
And they paid Adam Kennedy to leave? What is Rizzo thinking?
Kennedy was getting paid too much to be a utility guy.
Cora has never been a good hitter, or a good player for that matter. The guy has posted a negative WAR total 7 times in his career.
I had a nice laugh when I read Serious Talks and Alex Cora in the same sentence. lol Boras must get 99% of Cora contract. Otherwise I don’t see why Boras would lower himself to represent a player bad as Cora.
