Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has a source that claims the Player's Association will only focus on the status of Pedro Alvarez' contract and not on the contract of Eric Hosmer. Kovacevic says the MLBPA will argue that Hosmer's contract was only delayed so the Pirates could have more time to negotiate with Alvarez. 11:10pm: Baseball America's Jim Callis says Dykstra signed for $1.15MM. 11:07pm: Padres draft pick Allan Dykstra was widely considered the first rounder least likely to sign, due to representation by Scott Boras and a hip issue that came up in his physical. However, the deal was completed this evening before the buzzer for at least $1MM.

10:51am: Baggarly has the latest on Posey. He says it's a "spitting contest" between Scott Boras and Posey's agency to have the highest-paid draft pick. 7:46am: The latest links involved unsigned first-round draft picks. Sam Mellinger explains the decision Eric Hosmer faces. He might have to go against Scott Boras' advice. Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle denies Andrew Baggarly's Buster Posey report yesterday, calling it "premature Posey-ing." Schulman talked to the Giants' director of player personnel, who said the deal is not done and the number is not $7.5MM. There is no verbal agreement, either. Schulman also heard...

Let's kick off the morning with some random links. Live chat here today at 2pm CST. Brian Matusz is hopeful about striking a deal with the Orioles by Friday's deadline. Roch Kubatko has a source saying it's likely. Baseball America's Jim Callis warns us not to listen to the posturing - he still expects all the first-round draft picks to sign with the possible exception of Allan Dykstra. Let's round up some linkage. ESPN's Buster Olney wonders if Adam Everett would be a good fit for the Dodgers. Phillies pitcher Adam Eaton accepted a minor league assignment today. It seems that J.A. Happ will replace him. Jim Callis of Baseball America thinks the only first-round pick who might not sign will be San Diego's Allan Dykstra. I did a Q&A with Mets Fans Forever. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak dismissed the idea of trading Kyle Lohse. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe believes the Cardinals have the best shot at acquiring A.J. Burnett. But don't forget that interesting suggestion...

Nothing major cracking on the hot stove this morning, so we'll kick it off with odds and ends. The Padres haven't finalized the deal with top pick Allan Dykstra due to concerns with his physical. Sorry Pirates fans, but the team does not have interest in bringing back Shawn Chacon. David Lennon believes Omar Minaya's job is safe. Minaya could seek an extension after the season (he's signed through '09). In a non-subscriber article, Baseball Prospectus' Joe Sheehan gives his take on whether certain teams should be buyers or sellers. Saberscouting gives a scouting report on Michel Inoa. Henry Schulman...

The Padres have signed their first and second round draft picks, Allan Dykstra and Jaff Decker. Dykstra will get around $1.4MM and Decker about $890K. Dykstra (no relation to Lenny) is a college first baseman with great raw power, according to Baseball America. He was the 23rd overall pick; Paul DePodesta compared him to Jim Thome. Decker is a high school outfielder, chosen 42nd overall.
