Wilfredo Ledezma Rumors

Sunday afternoon is here again... let's have a look back at some of the moves and rumors since last time: The injury-plagued Red Sox acquired Mark Kotsay to help compensate for their injuries. In exchange, the Braves received minor league outfielder Luis Sumoza. Nice acquisition by the Red Sox; Kotsay has been swinging a solid bat this season. The Twins acquired Eddie Guardado from Texas in exchange for minor league pitcher Mark Hamburger. Guardado has spent the majority of his career with Minnesota and provides a solid arm to the bullpen. To make room for him, they DFA'd Mike Lamb....

According to the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks claimed lefty Wil Ledezma off waivers from the Padres. Ledezma, 27, posted a 4.47 ERA in 54.1 innings. Walks have been a problem for him. He's under team control through 2010, if the D'Backs want to go to arbitration with him.

More random linkage. The Yankees have released first baseman Ben Broussard. The Padres designated Wil Ledezma for assignment. The 27 year-old could help someone as a reliever. The first first-rounder of '08 has signed: David Cooper of the Blue Jays. He could be in High-A ball by year's end. Last year's 17th pick, Blake Beavan, got about $1.5MM. By the way, only 26% of readers thought the Jays made the right choice with Cooper (according to our in-draft poll). Funny Mike Mussina quote from John Feinstein's new book.

Still, it would've been nice to see John Schuerholz come up with some kind of starter for the back end of the rotation. Maybe in August. Startup's been solid in Triple A, and the Padres might be able to coax some goodness out of the twice-traded Ledezma. With so many decent lefties..

The Braves and Tigers swapped relievers today, with the Braves sending Macay McBride over to Detroit for Wilfredo Ledezma. McBride, a 24 year-old left-handed reliever, has experienced control problems for most of his Braves' career. The Braves drafted the little lefty 24th overall in 2001, and he was converted to relief in '04. He did have a solid second half year, crediting a change in his delivery. His control was again terrible in April of this year but he seems to have corrected that. Ledezma, 26, is also a southpaw. He was a Rule V pick out of the Boston..
