Dodgers Not Pursuing Aroldis Chapman

Bill Shaikin of The LA Times reports (via Dylan Hernandez) that the Dodgers are not pursuing Cuban lefthander Aroldis Chapman, even though starting pitching remains a top priority.

Here's our Chapman review from a little over a week ago last week.  Since then we've learned more about the Angels, White Sox, Orioles, Cubs, Braves, and Marlins.

None of those teams (LAA, CHW, BAL, CHC, ATL, FLA) have a real chance at Chapman, except maybe the Angels, and MAYBE the O's (since they were willing to offer big money to Te last year).

The White Sox just took on Peavy and Rios, so they don't have the money. The Cubs won't pay Harden after he was basically their most durable starter last year. The Braves are already swamped with overpaid pitchers (Lowe, Vazquez, Kawakami), and they want to MOVE pitching and need a bat. And when do the Marlins EVER spend money?

The Angels might happen because of the money left over with Lackey leaving (along with the rotation spot), and the O's aren't likely, but they are at least realistic. It's most likely going to be a NYY-BOS bidding war as always.

What I am wondering is why in the heck the Dodgers are not pursuing Aroldis Chapman. He would help us complete a pretty solid 1-3 in our rotation in Kershaw, Bills and hopefully Chapman.

Stupid McCourts and their divorce.

There is so much projection with him, 40-60 Million dollars for what?

Chapman has a FB... and thats it. He has no secondary pitches. IMO, there is no way a MLB team pays 60M when we have seen so many Japanese players come over and struggle. The only one I can think of that had great success was Nomo. The Dodgers have no need to go for him.

Within the next two and a half years, we have E. Martin, Nate Eovaldi, Withrow and Gould who are all projected to be #1s. And we have Aaron Miller who had a great deput this year.

We have plenty of young pitchers that will cost nearly nothing that we shouldnt spend 60M on a guy who has 1 pitch...

Aroldis is not Japanese. He is Cuban.

yoda, I know. My point was teams have thrown millions at Japanese players who have had professional success and many have failed. Giving 60M to a 21 yr old who hasnt thrown a professional isnt a smart choice...
