The Braves just put out a press release; they've acquired Greg Norton from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Norton, 35, certainly didn't do anything wrong with the Mariners. He was 7 for 16 with a couple of doubles before they DFA'd him. He's a solid switch-hitting bench bat, a nice pickup for Frank Wren. We might be able to give Norton a mulligan for his off-year in '07; he was coming off knee surgery and finished the year with elbow surgery.

Random rumors, let's round 'em up. How about Bartolo Colon to the Mets? David Lennon notes that Omar Minaya sold the farm to acquire him in 2002 as the Expos' GM. Scott Lauber says Aaron Rowand is insisting on a five-year deal. He adds that the Phils have interest in Geoff Jenkins but he might be too expensive. Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller are considered untouchable, so don't look for the Tigers to make any big trades. ESPN 1000's Bruce Levine suggested yesterday that the Cubs were preparing an offer for Carl Crawford. However, team officials told Roger Mooney today that there's nothing brewing. Apparently the rumor was Rich Hill, Eric Patterson, and a prospect for Crawford. That doesn't seem sufficient anyway. There was even some talk of a three-way deal involving the Brewers and Yankees, which was from Gotham Baseball. According to Mooney, none of it is for real. You be the judge.
