By Mark Polishuk [November 17, 2009 at 9:12pm CST]
Some news and notes from around the majors.... It was previously reported that eight teams were interested in veteran utilityman Mark DeRosa. According to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times, you can add the Mets, Braves and Twins to the list, as well as DeRosa's most recent team, the Cardinals. With so many interested parties, DeRosa's agent Keith Grunewald believes his client should have no problem getting his desired multi-year contract. In that same article, Hernandez notes that the Dodgers talked to Grunewald about both DeRosa and another of the agent's clients, pitcher John Smoltz. The Dodgers were previously cited...

Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Troy Glaus and his $11.25MM salary would likely clear waivers in August, so the Cards could trade him then if he isn't fully healthy within the next three days. Glaus currently profiles as a Type A free agent, but Sherman doubts the Cards will offer him arbitration after the season even if they keep him. Here are more of Sherman's rumors: An AL official believes the Red Sox "will step up" for Adrian Gonzalez and tempt the Padres with their many prospects. The D'Backs may keep Chad Qualls around for next season,...

We heard from FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal yesterday that the Cardinals are now trying to move Troy Glaus because he's unable to throw more than 90 feet. He'd work well as a DH-type in the American League or a first baseman, if NL teams decide to step up. Rosenthal listed the Giants, Braves, Rangers and Tigers as possible trade partners, but we can now cross Detroit off that list. As Chris Iott of MLive.com notes, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the club has no interest in Glaus: "Believe me, with all due respect to Troy Glaus, his name has never been...

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com say that the Phillies and Blue Jays are getting closer on a potential Roy Halladay deal, but nothing is imminent. The Rangers and Dodgers have both expressed interest in Halladay, but did not talk with Toronto on Friday. The Angels have reportedly improved their offer for the former Cy Young Award winner, but it's unlikely they'll match Philadelphia's package. The Yankees have also expressed interest, but Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi has yet to engage them in discussions. In a separate column, Rosenthal and Morosi fork over a slew of rumory goodness... Don't...

A few links for your Saturday evening reading... MLB.com's B.J. Rains says that Troy Glaus is going to work out in the outfield as he rehabs from offseason shoulder surgery. The Cardinals haven't committed to using him in the outfield when he returns, they're just giving it a try to see what happens. Glaus played five innings in left field tonight before moving to first base. The Cards have been looking to add a bat seemingly all year. John Perrotto of Pirates Report.com says that it's unlikely Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez sign extensions. This morning we learned that the...
