Let's take a look at what some fans are writing about their favorite teams around the worldwide netweb... Bleed Cubbie Blue says Milton Bradley must go. Bradley is hitting just .237-.355-.379, but the riff with Lou Piniella and off-the-field issues are the real problem. Fire Brand of the American League wonders if shortstop might end up being a position of strength for the Red Sox. River Ave. Blues looks back on the Xavier Nady trade, and says that even though Nady and Damaso Marte are hurt, it was the right move because the Yankees were just one game back of...

6:59pm: Apparently, the Pirates couldn't wait until Tuesday. Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review found out from Huntington that Tabata had the MRI today and everything looks fine. "He does have some mild rotator cuff inflammation, but is able to return to activities as (the pain is) tolerated." 6:11pm: Highly-touted prospect Jose Tabata will have an MRI done on his right shoulder Tuesday after alerting the Pittsburgh Pirates' medical staff to some recent soreness, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. General manager Neal Huntington told Langosch that the team's medical staff does not believe there is reason for serious concern. The...

12:30pm: In an email, Bloom told me it is a combination of eight Type A and Bs (not eight of each) and whether or not the team offered arbitration has nothing to do with the quota. 11:37am: Bloom says that a unilateral exception was granted this offseason allowing any team to sign as many as eight Type A or B free agents. A total of 216 free agents filed, an exceptionally high number. Another note: Bloom learned from Manfred that while draft pick compensation would be eliminated if the player waits until after the June draft to sign, it has...

A look at the newest column from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal believes the Nick Swisher trade is a prelude to other moves for the White Sox, and shouldn't be judged in isolation. Darren Oliver could follow Damaso Marte and re-sign quickly, as his market value is also diminished by his Type A status. Texas native Kerry Wood is a good match for the Rangers, though they're not going to want to do three years at $10MM per (I think). Jim Hendry says Wood will always be welcome to come back to Chicago. Rosenthal says the Rangers also have...

Linkage for Thursday... Viva El Birdos tries to put a price on Rick Ankiel, and decides now is the time to trade him. Ankiel, a Scott Boras client, is eligible for free agency after the '09 season. Derrick Goold runs through the lefty reliever options for St. Louis on his blog. It doesn't seem like Trevor Hoffman is on the Cardinals' radar. Hoffman wants to remain a closer, so he won't be going to San Francisco either. Brian Cashman explains that $6MM for one year of Damaso Marte was too much, but $12MM over three years works. Ken Davidoff still...

3:38pm: Joel Sherman says the 2012 option is for $4MM, with a $250K buyout. Ken Davidoff believes this contract was a mistake in light of the '09 option, and I agree. 1:06pm: It's official. Marte gets a three-year deal with a club option for 2012. 9:01am: According to Impacto Deportivo, the Yankees signed Damaso Marte to a three-year, $12MM deal (link is in Spanish). The Yanks had declined a $6MM option for 2009 earlier. It's good news for Marte, who was saddled with Type A status. Marte is getting up there a bit; he'll be 34 in February. He initially...

The Yankees announced today that they have declined Damaso Marte's '09 option. Yesterday we learned that the Yankees were seeking to sign Marte to an extension. Marte is a Type A free agent, so figure on at least an offer of arbitration. The option was for $6MM and was bought out for $250K. Cork Gaines writes for RaysIndex.com and can be reached here.

11:09pm: Brian Cashman sums up the Yankees' plan: "We're going to show a lot of love." 12:15pm: It's about time we check in with Yankees links. The Yankees will make their record-breaking pitch to C.C. Sabathia. If it fails, they'll move on to A.J. Burnett, Derek Lowe, and Oliver Perez. Joel Sherman says the Yankees could get involved on Manny Ramirez, but only if they fail to sign Mark Teixeira and manage to trade Hideki Matsui. Sherman says the Yanks are in on the catching market just to be safe, engaging the Rangers about Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. They'll...
