Carlos Beltran Rumors

Odds and Ends: Beltran, Brewers, Padres

Links for Friday... The Padres claimed second baseman Travis Denker off waivers from the Giants. Surprising to see the Giants let him go. Ted Berg at MetsBlog explains how a Carlos Beltran rumbling spun out of control. I recently did a Brewers Q&A with Bernie's Crew. The Padres called yesterday's report about John Moores selling his share of the team "highly speculative." Tim Sullivan considers the statement revealing, and notes that this is a bad time to sell. Michael S. Schmidt of the New York Times chatted with Scott Boras. Mark Cuban mentions that the struggling economy is slowing down...   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Manny, K-Rod, Cashman

Lets discuss the latest column from SI.com's Jon Heyman. The Mets are "disinclined" to go after Manny Ramirez or break up the Jose Reyes-David Wright-Carlos Beltran core. Heyman, like Ken Davidoff, feels the Mets can't afford to sit out the Francisco Rodriguez sweepstakes. If not him, then at least Brian Fuentes. Heyman says Brian Cashman "appears likely" to return as Yankees GM. He notes that Cashman wouldn't have ended up in Seattle anyway because of the return of Mariners chairman Howard Lincoln.   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Holliday, Fuentes, Teixeira

Jon Heyman of SI.com posted a new column yesterday. Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd is quietly calling other teams about Matt Holliday scenarios. One that was "floated," perhaps by Colorado, involved Holliday, Willy Taveras, Fernando Martinez, and Carlos Beltran. The Mets don't want to trade Beltran, nor does the player want to waive his no-trade clause. The Holliday-Mets scenario is deemed a long shot. Meanwhile, Troy E. Renck says the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets are "all panting after" Holliday. As you know, Brian Fuentes is likely to be traded. Heyman talked to a GM who expects Mark Teixeira to stay...   Continue Reading

Odds And Ends: Crede, Marlins, CanĂ³, Bonds

Some interesting tidbits this afternoon before I check out: Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that one of Brian Sabean's top advisors, Ted Uhlaender, was present to witness Joe Crede's homer off of Arizona's Max Scherzer on Saturday. Seems more and more likely, as Crede proves his back is fine, that he will be moved to the Giants. Will the White Sox get Kevin Correia in exchange for Crede? The White Sox need a back-of-the-rotation guy, and Kenny Williams and company think they can win this year. So prospects probably won't get it done. While the Giants could...   Continue Reading

Mets Interested In Santana, Dotel, Chacon

The New York Post's Mark Hale has an update for us regarding the Mets' pursuit of pitching. Even though the Wilpons haven't made any declarations to the media, the Mets are showing interest in Johan Santana. Hale notes a couple of stipulations: David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Carlos Beltran won't be dealt, and the Mets would want a 72-hour negotiation window. I don't think anyone expected anything different on either point. The Twins could certainly use an influx of outfield talent, and the Mets have it. Octavio Dotel is one free agent on the Mets' radar, though we've known that..   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: DeJesus, Lamb, Millar

Evan Grant writes for the Dallas Morning News, but he posted this column at night. Go figure. He's got some new info regarding the Rangers. As you know, the Rangers have had difficulty finding a long-term center fielder. That's the main focus of this offseason. The team has already shown interest in Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand, the top center fielders available. Other free agents such as Andruw Jones and Mike Cameron appear to be in play as well. Grant's trade candidates: Coco Crisp, David DeJesus, Mark Kotsay, and Carlos Beltran. We've speculated on DeJesus to Atlanta in the past...   Continue Reading
